Quote:obviously I was paraphrasing but I'm glad you're aware of the meaning of the quote as well. It's a direct quote from Sun Tzu's Art of War. Quote:To know the enemy you must study the enemy.I've read it. It's an interesting read to say the least. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Tax punish the rich = the liberal mantra = discourage successPunitive taxation is the core belief of the left wing. Punish those who earn by taking from them and giving to those who do not. Interesting concept. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. A good capitalist must have said that, right? Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I see this thread went into the standard off the rails republican persecution complex territory while I was away.
Quite the shame. C'est la vie, I suppose.

Quote:Not really. It's the old boiling pot vs. the frog thing. If you throw a frog into a boiling pot of water, he'll jump out immediately. If you put him in the pot then slowly heat the water up to a boil, he'll allow himself to be cooked alive. The way they're doing things, it's a slow boil approach. You're never going to get rid of the income tax, but you will start to see consumption taxes hitting you in the wallet in slow, almost imperceptible ways. Nobody will complain until it's too late because it's an incremental approach. They way Eric85 was describing it, consumption taxes would be good since they could be applied to people like illegal immigrants who otherwise drain the system. Quote:They way Eric85 was describing it, consumption taxes would be good since they could be applied to people like illegal immigrants who otherwise drain the system. It would only work if it was replacing the current tax code, if it's in addition to the tax code that's a completely different matter and would be double taxation. Quote:I see this thread went into the standard off the rails republican persecution complex territory while I was away. A CEO, a tea party member, and a union worker are all sitting at a table when a plate with a dozen cookies arrives. Before anyone else can make a move, the CEO reaches out to rake in eleven of the cookies. When the other two look at him in surprise, the CEO locks eyes with the tea party member. "You better watch him," the executive says with a nod toward the union worker. "He wants a piece of your cookie."

A CEO, a tea party member, and a union worker are all sitting at a table when a plate with a dozen cookies arrives. Before anyone else can make a move, a federal official removes 9 of the cookies to redistribute to someone else later on. The CEO takes his two cookies since he bought the dozen to start with which leads to the union member protesting the greedy CEO and forgetting to even eat a cookie. The Tea Party member throws the cookie away in protest of the federal official stealing all the cookies.

Your version is funny because it captures the level of delusion held by some.

If you want to include the tax man all you to do is add him to the table and change the last line to: "You better watch them," the executive says with a nod toward the union worker & federal official "They want a piece of your cookie."

Your link only says that corporations like Apple are using loopholes and avoiding lots of taxes - not that they aren't paying taxes.
Quote:Your link only says that corporations like Apple are using loopholes and avoiding lots of taxes - not that they aren't paying taxes. They're using loopholes to drop they're tax rates far below what average people pay and then say they can't afford to pay more. Like I said; they're taking 11 cookies and tricking everyone else into thinking someone else is going take the last cookie. |
