He did the same with Monroe and then traded him. Right now Marcedes is the only viable option at TE who can both catch and block. I agree that he should be gone but i feel that if our TE situation looked like our OT at the beginnig of the year (Joeckel,Monroe with depth behind them) that Caldwell would have moved him already.

 

He hasnt shown any fear of letting players like that walk. I just think in this case he didnt want to leave the shelves completely bare. Next year we will likely address TE in the middle rounds and a mid level FA (Which caldwell has done a good job of so far) and i think Marcedes will be gone. I agree he should be gone though.

He is 0-5, with a possibility of putting out the worst team EVER. So...what he's done this year? Horrible. Of course, we'll see if theres a method to the madness. Only time will tell. I remember the many "In Gene we Trust" comments made. Now? He's a bum.

The jury is still out on this new regime. Lets see what he does with all his draft picks, and anything else that will put a competitive team on the field, besides one that's gone as far as being scratched in Vegas for any odds on reaching the Superbowl and breaking spread records. Next year will be huge in determining how the team will head and in what direction. I think everyone has given up on this year...hence all the Bridgewater talk,etc.

I'd have taken a 3rd for Monroe. 3rd rounders statistically have a better chance of turning into a good player than 4th & 5th rounders.

Eh he did catch some passes there too and was more known for his sure hands and route running vs his special teams play. We need a Qb as its been shown (especiallly the rams game) that he does gt open at the NFL level.

 

Yes Denard is a project but are you going to say he wasnt a playmaker during his time at a big name school in Michigan? Texas A@M i would also consider a bigger school in terms of name and player recognition. UConn isnt a complete nobody either and another one of their CBs was drafted as well.

 

Id say 5 of his picks came from relatively "big" schools Joeckel,Gratz,Sanders,Robinson and Evans vs 3 smaller schools guys Cyprien,Mccray, Harris. Maybe you are seeing less than what is really there.

-  Marks , W. Blackmon and Alan Ball are playing better than most expected and were all signed relatively cheap.  

 

- A few of the other waiver wire guys are showing up on special teams pretty often too. 

 

-  Of the draft picks -  Joeckel, McCray, Gratz, Cyprien, Evans, and Sanders have shown signs that they are worthy of an NFL future.  The jury is still out - but there are positive signs from these guys.  

 

Try and pick a past year in which this organization landed 3 productive free agents so affordably and had six draft picks showing early promise.... 

 

The Monroe trade seemed like it produced a meager return initially, but there are a number of contributing factors and much that we just don't know. (a few people speculating on a message about how they think the trade process went down doesn't make that speculation accurate) 

 

Caldwell has my attention.  The team is poised for a big offseason with 10 picks and plenty of cap-space.  We'll know a lot more next year at this juncture.  Can't really evaluate him yet, but so far so good in my book.

none. Whatsoever....so far. not moves have stood out. It's early. So we have to wait. This upcoming draft....whatever QB he drafts, will decide his fate

About the QB I agree - I think he will be evaluated fully after two years with his franchise QB plugged in. Other moves of course will matter.

 

Onto the topic at hand:

 

I like how he didn't panic, and rush out to sign someone to play QB who wouldn't be a long term contributor.

 

I also like the idea that he didn't flinch at all staring into the face of the Tebow hysteria.

 

I like how he picked the best player in the draft (believed to be), instead of faltering and grabbing a guy whose skills didn't match the value.

 

I like how he DIDN'T trade up and give up picks for an unproven player and let the draft come to him.

 

I like how he isn't scared to clear the decks of older vets/players who aren't part of the long term puzzle.

 

I like the Bradley hire, and believe in his philosophy about improvement. I think players will continuously buy into his mentality as long as he is the HC.

 

I also like how he handled Monroe. I liked #75 as a player and think he could have been a piece of this franchise moving forward - but Caldwell and crew didn't. So, I like how we have 10 picks instead of 8.

 

I hope his drafts go much better than the previous regimes - mother of god, we need it.

I don't think people are understanding that we got two draft picks for a guy with only 12 games left on his contract.  Those draft picks are fodder for moving leverage in the draft.

 

Take a look at it right now, if the season ended today, we wouldn't have the first pick.  Giants would.  All I'm saying is that anything can happen and having a bunch of 2nd day picks is a good thing for moving around especially if it's for the QB you want in the first round or other players later.
