Blake Bortles could be the next Blaine Gabbert?

I remember seeing this thread and thinking, "I don't care, we're going LEO"

I never put much thought into Bortles. Didn't really like him or dislike him, I just didn't think there was any chance we'd take him.

So I was shocked when his name was called. I thought that if the Jags were going to go QB, they'd go Manziel.

Either way, I'm glad things turned out the way they did.

This was my mindset as well, except I was thinking Teddy not Manziel.

Random thought that best fits in this thread: Bortles gave me something to do after the draft. I spent so much if my energy on Mack/Barr and Bridgewater/Carr/Manziel that I had to play catch when he was drafted. Now, Manziel is talking on his money phone and doing blow in Vegas. I'm good with Blake B

Gosh this thread is funny.

Lol, I wish I saw this thread before the draft.  I'm a YOOOO CEEEE EEEEFFFFF (Thanks TMD) fan and was high on Bortles, but was unsure at #3 in the draft.  I thought we would move down a few spots and take him.

This thread proves that a lot of people really have no clue about a qb, and they claim to have watched them play when they really didnt.  Someone linked a paragraph from another guys take on Bortles and how he was underwelming.  Was he underwelming when UCF beat Louisville or when they came back and dominated Baylor to win the game?  Yeah, thats underwelming.

If we would have picked Manziel I may have taken an NFL football break...lol.

I thought we were going Mack....and I am was happily wrong.

Of all the rotten luck.

Deandre Coleman could be the next JJ Watt. See how easy that was.

Ha, you're in good company, I wanted Bridgewater or Manziel with our first pick, so we all miss.

I was totally on the bortles bandwagon so one of those rare opportunities (while still early) to say I told you so...

Quote:When I see Bortles mocked to Jacksonville with the tag, "Prototypical QB" or "Highest Ceiling" or worse, "Biggest Boom or Bust Prospect" it makes me cringe. It reminds me of another prototypical QB, Blaine Gabbert. Bortles and Gabbert's pre draft measurables are eerily almost identical. Barring a trade, the 3rd pick has to be, Clowney, Bridgewater, Manziel, Watkins or Mack.

I'm glad to be wrong, I thought what the OP stated in his thread.  I will be VERY happy for Blake to continue to light it up.

If Gabbert got as far as that rollout... the Bears would have won 22-19.  (Assuming everything else somehow went the same)

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

I'm sticking by my Big Ben comparison.  Even better, my neighbor (also from Pittsburgh) stated that Bortles gets rid of the ball quicker which is a good thing.

I was on the Roethlisberger similarity for a while myself, but the more I watch Bortles the more I think he plays like Farvrehvrehvrehvreh. He's got that gamer/gunslinger approach to football that is probably going to cause me to develop heart palpitations.

Quote:If he's being compared to Blaine as a prospect, then wouldn't that be good thing?  Blaine was thought to be the #1 QB prospect by a lot of people that year.  Just didn't translate to the field.  I don't think Bortles' arm is as good as some think though.  He has the looks of a guy like Joe Flacco when he's standing in front of you, but he doesn't play like a big QB.

From April.  I'm laughing at myself now lol
