socialized health care has been a disaster anywhere it's implemented for more than a few generations. it's an economic killer.
I'd rather live in a society where healthcare is a basic right rather than a big business as corrupt as any other.

Quote:You do realise you aren't tied to socialised healhcare... You can go private if you like? Most people don't because the benefits by far outweight the cons.

The poverty you see when you visit the USA is shocking for outsiders from other developed countries. Not sure how that is freedom? and why you think this is the best way. Have you ever left the country?

I'm a first generation American, I'm well aware of the "rest" of the world. Despite your Utopian views my family has seen firsthand once government gains control all freedom is out the window.

I'll take the ability to own my property, defend it with my rifle, and live free over government dependence any day. Here's a little factoid, ALL governments eventually fail, and when they do the system dependent on them collapse as well, often violently.

Well than you've got about 30 options in Europe. Healthcare isn't a right anywhere, even under single payer systems. The only difference when you hand over health care to government is now you get to wait DMV style for the flu shot.

I understand and acknowledge the issues with government ran healthcare that is currently implemented as well as other possible option. That was not my point.

You said you would rather live free and die broke. I said I want to live in a society where healthcare is a right and not a business.

I think as a species we are predisposed to societal living and that we benefit greatly both in scientific advancement as well as cultural growth. I see a society where healthcare is easily available to every single living person as the pinnacle of morality and humanity. I think it should be a right and I disagree completely with the notion that it should not be.

Also it is kind of hilarious how the US economy is all powerful, but the team's message board we are discussing on is propped up by the good people of the UK, helping it survive. You should be thankful for the people of Britain  with their inadequate healthcare and terrible economy for spending money to keep the jags in Jacksonville...

What you're describing has never existed in the history of the world. I'm fine with creating a new right but economically I don't see how it would work?

I know it has not and is likely to never exist. It is very idealistic, I know that also. The easiest thing the american people could do right now is pressure local governments to get money out of politics as it is purely in ever person's interests. Only a handful of people are fighting for that. It's also not likely to happen. That does not stop me from wanting either thing to happen.

I give up, you either are just painfully ignorant or willfully arrogant.

The Jags play in London because our owner has a vision for this team's market on a global scale. It's actually pretty nice to have someone with those kind of grand notions working against the hicks on the city council. Maybe this back water will finally become what it ought to be.
