Ferguson Mo. Looting

Quote:You don't worry no cameras would give the authority's grounds to do whatever they wanted to disburse the crowd? I'd be worried about a massive wave of violence without the media keeping an eye on both sides, the last thing we need is 30-40 people killed in clashes with the police, you'd see riots in every major city.
I know you've got this overall disdain for law enforcement.  It's clearly allowing you to miss my point completely.

If the cameras go away, so do the "protesters" who are instigating most of the riots and looting.  All reports indicate those looters who are causing most of the trouble aren't even from the area.  They've shown up there because, as I've said before, they're opportunists.  They couldn't care less about a kid being shot for any other reason besides it giving them a chance to burn things and get free stuff while sending props to their friends on TV.  It's all theater, and the media is feeding that mindset.  The media isn't keeping an eye on anything.  They're providing a platform for these idiots to do their mayhem.

Just because there is lot's of sensationalism going on doesn't mean all the reporting is bad.

Who gets to decide when media is on blackout during events?

I don't have a disdain for police I have a deep mistrust of militarized police. You can blame the media but that's a deflection, removing media would do nothing heck the media is second fiddle to social media right now. They'd still loot and riot and post it on twitter and instant gram.

The governor has all the power right now he needs to shut the city down and regain order.

This is a very good point. "New Media" is taking over and instant access to information is how most news is disseminated these days

Quote:I disagree.  No cameras telecasting their activities would take away any motivation for those who instigate these situations.

The governor deserves a good chunk of blame for this situation happening.

Quote:I never suggested a media blackout was an option.  I'm just saying if the media turned tail and left, so would most of the violent protesters and looters, many of whom are being shipped in from outside of St. Louis.

Shipped in from where? On a slave ship from Chicago?

Why dont you just go on and say the police should just use water cannons like that moron CNN lady Rosemary Church suggested.

Newsflash.

There was unrest long before the National media arrived.

It's not unprecedented for lethal force to be used indiscriminately on a crowd of rioters.  It's happened dozens of times in the United States.  Even Chicago police once gunned down anyone in the streets after curfew.  If the rioters continue to metastasize, there could be real issues.

The guy constantly saying "Credentialed media should move to the designated media area"...what is that? Sounds like a violation of the 1st amendment to me. Is this the beginning of martial law?

You do have a disdain for police.  Anyone that has read your posts can clearly see it.

What have the police done to you that has made you feel this way?  Not saying you, but for the most part....the people that hate the police have typically done something and got caught doing it.  I would hate someone too if they put me in jail for a while.

I would say telling media to stay out of harms way isn't a bad thing?

There are two sides to every story, but there are stories now coming out that there are multiple witnesses that corroborate the cops story and that the cop had an orbital fracture to his eye.  If this is all true, the violence and looting seems pretty unjustified....no?  Eric/JFC, care to chime in on that?

Also, if I were a cop and there were people promoting violence, I would put on any type of gear that would protect me and carry the biggest gun possible.

In the ever expanding War on Crime, anyone who isn't Law Enforcement is seen as an enemy combatant. I don't have disdain for most cops, but I do for those who are bullies with a badge. I also believe that we must have a trust relationship with those whom we empower to uphold the law, and the more our constabulary moves from being "civilian" to "military" the more difficult it becomes to retain that trust. I have cops in the family, and every damn time they call a citizen a "civilian" I give them an ear full. They, as police, are civilians too. The mindset of the War on Crime is changing their perspective on their role in our society, and machine guns and tanks aren't helping with that problem.

I've never suggested the rioting is justified even if the cop shot brown in cold blood. I've discussed at length what leads to these boil overs, and pointed there has been in the past police brutality in minority communities.

Somehow if you acknowledge police brutality is a reality your a cop hater and must have been caught doing something illegal, that's a pretty broad assumption.

For the record I've never been arrested or had problems with police heck I'm friends with good number of police doesn't change my belief that the militarization is a problem creating more problems.

Accusing people that acknowledge police brutality as cop haters is like accusing prolife groups of hating women, it's demonized the oposition to avoid the topic.

Nobody has said there isn't police brutality, but what you seem to be stating isn't the small minority of cops.  It seems like you are over stating the amount of cops that are bad people.

This case could be a prime example where "police brutality" is not true.  If it comes out that this kid rushed the cop and punched him hard enough to break an eye socket, then this is an unfair case to the police.  At this point it is ingrained in some peoples heads that a cop shot a kid that had his hands up and was walking away, when the more and more evidence that comes out, that doesn't seem the case.

Everyone that gets in trouble now wants to scream that it was unfair and that the cops roughed them up.

Why is it bad that cops are using advanced weapons against people now?  If people are stupid enough to try and kill a cop, they should have the best at their disposal.

I know you'll believe whatever narrative supports your point of view, so your clever little slave ship comment doesn't surprise me.

Water cannons?  It just keeps getting more and more ridiculous with you.

But, the facts are there if you bothered to look.  But, that wouldn't really support your particular point of view, would it?

There was a report just yesterday on CNN that more than 70 people were arrested, and only 3 of them were from Ferguson.  Some came from as far away as OAKLAND CALIFORNIA.  I'm sure they were just vacationing in Ferguson, right?

KSDK reported more than a week ago that most of the people arrested for looting had felony records and came from outside of the St. Louis area.  These weren't locals who were outraged about police brutality in their neighborhood.  They were thugs who saw an opportunity to enjoy a little lawlessness.

Here's a report that backs my point up.This report says these looters had come from as far away as California and New York

Newsflash.  As more and more media attention was drawn to this situation, those protests went from local to what we're seeing now where you've got people coming from all over the country to cause mayhem.

People rushed to judgement in this case on both sides.  Nobody still knows what really happened.

For me the kicker will be if the cop had the damage to his eye that I've read.  I would need it confirmed by a legit news source, but if thats what comes out, its pretty obvious why this happened.

It doesn't make it any easier on the family, or the fact that there are issues with the police in that area.  I think dashboard cameras and cops actually having cameras attached to them will become the norm.  If that were the case, this would be clear cut.  Either the cop would be arrested for murder, or it would be shown that the kid attacked him.
