Allen Hurns

Quote:Hurns is a gem of a find. Tremendous asset when we needed help most with all the injuries. That gave him the opportunity to make this roster, and with authority. Heres the thing.....if this draft wasn't as deep at WR as it was, theres no way Hurns falls all the way to where we got him at. We show less advertisements to registered users. How many times has a 6 foot 2 receiver who was the #1 guy from Miami go undrafted?
Quote:True. How many times has a 6 foot 2 receiver who was the #1 guy from Miami go undrafted? It's strange. Even in a deep WR class it doesn't make a lot of sense. If it were a weak WR class where would he have gone - 5th round? That still seems a bit low for a record-breaking WR at a major college program who has good size, good hands, and can run routes. No character issues either. Does it simply come down to the fact that he isn't the fastest, quickest, or more physical player? But lots of guys get drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rounds who meet that definition. Jarvis Landry, anyone? (Not meaning to single Landry out - it's just one quick example because I'm not going to compile a list of 25 players)
Quote:He has looked good. But we have a guy like this every camp. Cortez Hankton, Kevin Elliott, Nate Hughes. It's a long list. Difference being, this one was starting against opposing first team players and making plays.
The TD from Bortles to Hurns was a great play.
Hurns sold the CB that he was going deep, then stopped and the ball was right there. It was a great route! I like Hurns alot! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Not so sure it had as much to do with the depth of the draft, as much as Hurns doesn't wow with any measurables. But the one thing he's exceptional at is getting open/competing one on one with DBs.
This is what many fans struggle with in determining value. No, you can't draft in hindsight. Teams will throw a grade of UDFA on a Hurns and roll the dice after the draft, unless they've "fallen in love" with him and spend a six or seventh to ensure they get first look. This is the case of the diamond in the rough. Like Tom Brady, tons of guys passed on him for valid reasons. He simply beat the odds. Nothing more, nothing less. You can't redraft in hindsight and put a round on him. He drafted where his scout grade placed him.
"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."
Quote:Difference being, this one was starting against opposing first team players and making plays. And he performed lights out against the National champs and all through his collegiate career at a big school
Hurns only had one productive year. His combine numbers are mediocre and he didn't have a great QB throwing him the ball, these guys can slip through the cracks. Just be happy we got him

But the one thing he's exceptional at is getting open/competing one on one with DBs. Another factor is Hurns really only had one impressive season in college (his last one). The others were very pedestrian. Whatever the reasoning, I don't care. I'm just glad we have him now.

Just be happy we got him I actually just posted something similar....but left out the combine stuff which was a good point by you......so many teams stupidly put too much of an emphasis on combine crap. Hurns is just the latest example to show how worthless that crap is and that actual tape should trump combine garbage 100% of the time. Quote:Hurns only had one productive year. But I'm just pointing out the difference between him and Sharon or Hankton
Quote:I am happy, beyond it. But I'm just pointing out the difference between him and Sharon or Hankton Yeah, SHaron & Hankton had a few big plays that skewed their preseasons, too. Hurns is simply being CONSISTENTLY good in his play. There really have been few single stand out plays by Hurns - just a TON of quality, good ones. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Hurns is our best receiver. By a significant margin. At this point, I agree. Quote:Yeah, I know.....that comment about Hurns' size was odd. It pains me to actually agree with your entire post. But alas, I agree on all counts.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:At this point, I agree. Here is where I don't agree. We have receivers on the team who have produced well in the regular season. Hurns hasn't done anything yet.

Quote:Lee better be careful before Hurns takes his job.You saw it coming... Hurns will be the No'1 WR on the 2014 team... Lee didn't do squat last night

![]() Quote:Hurns looks like our version of Dez Bryant. The fact he was a really late pick makes us look genius. Cecil is going to have to earn his contract. He wasn't drafted. That's why he's such a gem.
