Does anyone remember exactly how the Russel Wilson situation went?
|
What week in the preseason was he named the starter? Did the coaching staff say that Flynn was going to be the starter week 1 until Wilson is ready? How similar is it to our situation?

Seahawk fan here. Wilson was named the week 1 starter on August 26, 2012 following the third preseason game.
Flynn started the first two preseason games against the Titans and Broncos. Wilson was impressive in both games but the obvious point was made that he was playing against the backups. Before the third game Flynn came down with an elbow issue and Wilson was named starter against the Chiefs. He tore it up against their starters and was named starter. Matt Flynn never started a game for the Seahawks. Wilson Preseason Highlights below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbknJSAMsw8 Quote:What week in the preseason was he named the starter? All along he said that he would compete for the starting job with Tarvaris Jackson. Following the 3 day rookie minicamp Carroll said on May 13, 2012 that Wilson had forced the issue and would now be in a three way competition with Flynn and Jackson. While I give the Seahawks worlds of credit for their decision to draft Russell Wilson in Round 3 a couple of years ago, that decision likely saved them from a major mistake in giving Matt Flynn a sizeable contract. Even Joe Philbin, who was Flynn's Offensive Coordinator in Green Bay, apparently didn't push for Flynn in Miami. The only role Flynn appears to be a good fit in is as a backup to Aaron Rodgers in a Packers Offense with good overall personnel.
No. Wilson was impressive in the preseason and never look back. Flynn received $10 millions that one year while holding the clipboard.
I have to imagine there was an open competition. We don't have that at the qb position until Gus says so.
