Jags Cut Eleven Players

#21
(This post was last modified: 08-24-2014, 05:18 PM by LMD.)

I remember making a comment about being surprised that Harris was in at the end of the last game. I guess this helps explain it. Coaches weren't impressed with him, or as impressed with him as they were with others on the team.

They like the other Harris better.  Which is natural, they drafted him because he fits their style and what they are looking for.

Young might be a practice squad candidate.

Deadline is Tuesday I believe for all NFL teams.

As for the other 4 cuts, might be as simple as needing a little longer to talk things through and come to a decision.

Quote:maybe he won't but if he did I trust Caldwell to find a good replacement. I expected Anger to be a pro bowler from day one.
That's Gene Smith's problem, not Bryan Anger's. He's a good punter, he certainly isn't the second coming of Ray Guy but he's not bad. Gene Smith overdrafted him.

I'm sure one issue is waiting on the extra kicker with Scobee's injury. That guy would usually be gone in this round, but they may need him for Thursday.

If they're getting cut in the first wave of cuts, they are not guys who are going to command any sort of trade value.  They're guys who are going to be delivering your UPS next week.

Hopefully he's not needed for any longer than this week.

Mike Harris is the only guy of note in the initial wave, and that's really not saying much.

Colvin to IR.

Quote:The Jacksonville Jaguars moved rookie defensive back Aaron Colvin[Image: icon-article-link.gif] from the active/non-football injury list to the reserve/non-football injury list.  The Jaguars now have the league-mandated 75 players on their active roster.

In the article on the homepage, it seems as if Colvin is on that IR-designated to return listing. I wonder if he'll see the field this season.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Yes, it does sound that way.

David Caldwell said.  “He has been dedicated to his rehab from day one and worked extremely hard with our training and strength staff every day.  He played at a high level at Oklahoma and we feel strongly about what he will bring to our roster in the future.  He will continue his rehab and we will make a decision on his playing status for 2014 at the appropriate time.”

NFL rules stipulate that starting on the day after the conclusion of the 6th regular season weekend (October 14) and continuing through the day after the conclusion of the 11th regular season weekend (November 18), clubs are permitted to begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (or Reserve/Non-Football Injury) for a period not to exceed 21 calendar days.  Pads and helmets are permitted during the 21-day period.  At any time during the 21-day practice period, or prior to 4 p.m., New York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day period, clubs are permitted to restore such players on Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform to their Active/Inactive List.

Sounds like he'd be potentially available after the bye or perhaps just before if one of the other DBs is struggling or injured.

Is there a limit to the number of  (IR'ed) players that can have this designation?

I dont think he was placed with an IR designation. It sounds more like he's on the NFI/PUP list.

I think you only get one on the DTR list per season. I think they were waiting on Preseason to play itself out to see if there would be another candidate for the spot, at least it seems that way to me.

Good call. I think you are, indeed, correct.  non-football-injury list is allowed to come back after six weeks.

Kiko Alonso a good example:
