Aaahhh. First time it's had a hint of a cool feeling this morning when I was out doing my walk, in quite a while. Nice and clear and it seemed like there a billion stars all around, and I got a peaceful easy feeling.....

Btw, if you were looking to the east just before sunrise and saw two bright 'stars', the lower, brighter one in Venus. The higher and slightly smaller one is Jupiter. Both are currently in conjunction. They were closest to each other on the morning of August 18th and grow increasingly distant everyday afterwards, but still clearly visible together. To give some perspective on the relative vastness observed, Venus is currently approximately 150 million miles away while Jupiter is 574 million miles distant.

So, due to the amount of time it takes light to travel, how long ago are we seeing Venus and Jupiter in our "present" moment? Some simple mathematics and dimensional analysis will lead us to the answer!

Don't forget to subtract one au to account for Earth's orbital distance.
