Are we working Denard Robinson slowly like we are with Bortles?

What running game?

And while we're at it, what passing game?

perhaps they are holding him in reserve so that when the nazis overrun new york they can pull him out and save the day.

With our current injuries, he's probably the only player we have on the offensive side of the ball that has the chance to make explosive plays. Good thing he's only getting 3 snaps and 1 touch a game, because we certainly don't need any explosive plays!

Wonder what Chip Kelly could do with Denard.

They need to give Denard some additional reps.  Gerhart does not have the speed to get outside effectively, and the middle, his best place to be effective, has no holes with this line.

That has been my opinion for quite some time.  I see a lot of people wanting him in there, but he's really not shown me anything, even against backups in preseason.

We can't play Denard until we have a Pro Bowl OL or he may lose confidence and be ruined forever.

However, if we draft or sign high level OLinemen they must sit on the bench too, because blocking for inferior skill position players may cause them to lose confidence and be ruined forever.

Quote:Robinson has to earn his snaps.  It doesn't appear he's doing much in that department based on the number he's gotten so far.  I don't think it's a conspiracy against him as much as it's just him not rising to the challenge.  That #2 job behind Gerhart is ripe for the taking, and he's not doing anything to elevate himself to do so.
The #2 job? Gerhart is averaging 2 yards a carry, the #1 job is ripe for the taking.  I don't know that Robinson is all that good but I distinctly remember him being a lot better than 7 rushes for 8 yards last year. Hell, Id almost take Robinson as QB and Henne as RB over the situation we are putting on the field right now.

On a side note I wouldn't mind him, or at least someone else, returning kickoffs. Toddman is not fast enough for that job.

Its not a matter of thinking he is going to go be AP out there, we have a guy that is averaging TWO YPC. Literally guys off the street would beat that. If Drob or Todman can't beat that then cut them and start making phone calls.

Need to use D-Rob a bit more, maybe on screens or outside handoffs. We really need some explosive plays to keep defenses on their heels. I don't understand the logic behind keeping him out.

Quote:I wonder the same thing but we don't see these guys in practice. D-Rob has had some ball security issues in the past, so maybe it's still an issue.
I also thought this was the case, especially after that 20?ish yard TD run that he fumbled away going into the end zone. I was especially perplexed by this as watching the replay showed he covered the ball up with 2 hands to specifically guard from this happening. I assumed he was maybe just needed more arm/grip str since he wasn't a RB in college. Then I heard about his nerve problem in his hand which made it all make sense. However in the offseason Bradley said "With the time off this off-season and a lot of work, it came back for him." I assumed this meant that he wasn't having problems with it and would have a greater impact on the offense. Thinking about it now with the abysmal performance of Gerhart not leading to him getting more time I'm wondering if he had a setback with it.

He was our leading rusher. Unimpressed? Please tell me which running back on this team does impress you and why.

I agree.  I hope he gets more touches this week.  He ran the ball zero times on Sunday and had two catches for 14 yards.

I think he should get at least 10 touches.  Surprised they aren't trying to get him involved more.

Yeah the whole situation is a little perplexing.  To me Gerhart has been a huge let down.  *Part* of this is obviously the OL.  What we saw of D-Rob in pre-season certainly looked promising though.  Somebody else mentioned maybe the problem is that he's still having trouble in protection schemes.  I dunno.  I am starting to think of Todman as "just a guy" although he has some obvious physical skills.  We'll see how it progresses during the season but I wouldn't be surprised to see D-Rob get more play at some point during the season.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Why do that when it would take carries away from white lightening and his gaudy 2.0 average?

I'm not a jags fan at all, a steelers fan actually. I'm not a michigan fan or a big10 fan either. I just had to sign up to throw in an outside opinion.

I actually stashed denard on my fantasy league team because he should be handling kickoff returns and maybe even punt returns (not sure about his hands there). He definitely should be getting 4-6 targets per game if not more (again hands a question) but screen passes and intermediate routes are a good chance for him to show his speed and elusiveness in the open field. I also think he should be getting 4-6 carries per game. end arounds, tosses, jet sweeps etc. God forbid the coaches show a little extra creativity and let him throw the ball on one of these jet sweeps to a receiver on the backside after the defense switches to follow him.

I added him to my fantasy team because i see his potential. maybe not as a percy harvin but a cordarelle patterson for sure. The biggest difference really is drob can even throw the ball (kind of). I could be completely wrong but what do you have to lose?

anyway just thought i'd let you know that youre not alone in this. good luck to you guys and i cant wait to see bortles start.

p.s. i wish theyd run a flea flicker just once to see how it works against these teams that completely sell out because of the quagmire that is henne

Welcome. I agree with everything you said.

Last year they tried only one play with DRob throwing the ball and I believe it was against the Texans. The play worked but Cecil Shorts dropped the ball.

I hope he gets more touches!

He doesn't block as well as Todman does.  Ryan O and Prisco have both said in the past that they think that's the only reason he's ahead of Drob on a lot of downs.  When Drob can block better, then he'll take over that spot.

There's ways of beating this. How about a chip and then a screen pass and now he's on space to do work? I don't buy that "he can't block" theory

Well I don't want to buy the fact that Henne's starting this weekend, but that doesn't change the truth now does it?

Drob's inability to block is on film.  Watch some of the All-22 with him from previous games, especially from this preseason.  He doesn't block well and doesn't recognize blitz pickups fast.

And screens would be great if we had guys who could actually pull block and get to the second level.

One thing I did agree with Vic on was: it's players not plays.
