Is WR THAT bad?!?

Quote:Can you honestly say we've had any reliable receivers outside of a declining Jimmy Smith since Brunell left? we haven't had hardly any good players on the entire offense over the years... but you have to admit the "receivers aren't getting open" excuse is pretty common. meanwhile, if you watch a QB like Rivers, he will throw a guy open. DEfenders will be draped all over a receiver in 1 v 1 coverage and he makes the throw. if a nerd was watching all-22 where the QB held the ball on a similar play and got sacked they would say, "look here the tape doesn't lie, nobody is open" We show less advertisements to registered users. Sullivan's track record speaks for itself; he took Shorts from "complete draft bust" to contributor. He took Mike Brown from QB to decent enough 5th WR. He took Taylor and made him competitive. Its tough to judge the rest because a lot of them were young and bursting with potential when Sullivan got here, but, I have no reason to believe Sullivan is the issue. As far as what I would consider a mental mistake, I definitely think dropping the ball is partially a mental mistake. I think part of it is technique too though. It may vary as to which I think is more important based on who it is receiving the ball (I think Hurns, a guy who's played WR for a significant number of years, dropping a wide open TD is more of a mental mistake, whereas Brown, a QB up until 3 years ago, dropping a pass that's up at his head, in traffic, is partially mental but also goes to his technique and general ability to catch the ball.). Which only goes to further my point; if Gus was mad at the coaching, he wouldn't be singling out everyone but the one with the least experience at catching the ball, who isn't catching the ball. It sounds more like he's upset with the lining up and route running. If he was upset with the drops, Brown's name would have to be there. I think catching falls more on Sullivan than knowing the playbook. The lack of disappointment/anger/whatever Gus is showing towards Brown for not being able to catch the ball, I think is significantly more indicting of the 3 WR's mentioned than Sullivan's ability to coach them.

It's beginning to look a lot like 2013.... that looked like 2012. That got people fired because of 2011, which was a horrible draft. Followed by years of bad drafting after we sold the farm for Derek Harvey.
So it sure looks like 2015 is going to be more of 2014. Development is only going so far. At this rate 2016 should get us to a good place.

Sadly, it's common that the receivers did not get open. I do not deny Rivers is a better QB than any we've had since Brunell, but let's face it, Vincent Jackson is better than any Jaguars WR we've had since Jimmy Smith...and for that matter, Antonio Gates is better than any TE we've had, period. I look forward to Bortles being in the starting lineup though, to see him "throw receivers open." Some of his throws this preseason were amazing. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
Quote:Sadly, it's common that the receivers did not get open. Lots of dropped interceptions in the preseason as well. That said, he looked like a quarterback and had command. We haven't had someone with command since Leftwich and his mechanics were the problem.

Why delay the learn from your mistakes until 2015 when he can make mistakes and learn from them in a year that we're clearly not competing for wins and losses? One of these years.............
Quote:Again, so the coaches are specifically throwing those three guys under the bus to save face for Henne? Lol. I know right!!

I'm pretty sure we had four preseason games for these rookie wide outs to get all their routes learned but we played them a quarter or so like they were established veteran receivers. If they don't know what the hell they're doing you play them for a longer time and let them get as many reps as possible. Now it's the real thing and they're not prepared. Only one get a slight pass is Robinson because he was hurt but even then he should've been in the playbook hard.
