Crap. In Hawaii and coming down with a nasty virus that my hacking, sneezing work partner passed on to me. Oh well, today is a day of rest anyway. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. Nothing that a packet of Theraflu and a Mai Tai can't fix. Getting up for work will be difficult, though.

I can't believe how ridiculously bad some of the emails are, that I receive. I mean, I work in an office environment and some of these things look like they came from someone with zero education. A page filled with words and zero punctuation, and barely intelligible.

That's the werst i h8t wen people do that sum people have know cents whatsoever it's like they all dropped out of hi! School after they had their baby their freshman year me I'm glad I decided to stick with it iams much better man for staying in scool

I don't hate it really. I'm just amazed that someone can get a job, writing like that.

What gets me is that people will either ignore spelling and punctuation notifications, or turn them off. If you're aware that you're not so hot writing the English language, use the tools at your disposal. Some of these people are the same ones who won't hesitate to download and use a butt wiping app, but won't use the basic word tools to make themselves appear somewhat edgeyoukaited.

I like to think of myself as rather laid back, but misspellings and grammar mistakes drive me nuts, even on personal emails and the like. Maybe it's because my Mother and Grandmother both were teachers and I was grilled on Handwriting, Spelling, and Grammar pretty much on a nightly basis during school, but for whatever reason it really colors my impression of people. 

 

Being able to write neatly, spell correctly, and use proper grammar isn't really an indication of intelligence per se, although you could say that repeated grammar mistakes may be due to a lack of retention, but it is an indication of poor effort. Even if it's a casual dialogue, why should I care to read it if you don't care to state it correctly? Your email getting to me an extra 15 seconds later because you scrubbed the thing that's asking me for pizza and beers tomorrow night isn't going to hurt too terribly much.
