Same sex marriages

Quote:It goes against Republicans as well.  What is your point?  This is called human nature.  It isn't a liberal thing or a republican thing.  It is a human thing.

But the essential core of conservatism isn't being tolerant of others ideals and beliefs, is it?

Quote:I didn't vote for Obama either. (Barr/Johnson).  Heck, I voted for Ol' George W back in 2004 -- my first presidential election.  We still get letters from Laura Bush asking for donations to her library.  We even got a christmas card from the Bush's.

Maybe we're doing it wrong.  Maybe we should lump them together, because apparently political parties determine beliefs.  So we should lump hailtoyourvictor and TMD in with Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin.

I voted Bush the first time, but John Kerry the 2nd.  I at least learned from my mistake though I'm not sure how good John Kerry would have been.

Voting is overrated. When was the last time a president could appease all?

Because there is no debate on the actual topic of the thread. I have not seen anybody in this thread oppose same sex marriage.

I wasn't old enough to vote in 2000.  But I always felt like Kerry was too much of a flip flopper.  But oops.  That goes against core liberalism or something.  I just wish I knew what it was, and how I've been following it.

You can label it anyway you want.  What I'm telling you is there are people in both parties who force their view points down others.  I honestly don't like lumping people together.  I'll simply debate people individually based on their point of view and/or opinions.  You should try it some time.

Apparently we have been doing it wrong.  We will probably hear from the democratic party letting us know how we need to think.

Too much work.  Which oddly goes against a core conservative belief.  (I think?)

Quote:Woah, woah, woah. That completely contradicts what I've been told in the past. If I say that you thinking women should have the right to vote is ignorant and stupid, I'll immediately be labeled intolerant of women's rights. But hey, as long as I take no action to suppress it, I should be considered tolerant, right?? Horse crap.

But as soon as it's something liberals disagree with (ie. TMD's view on same sex marriage), as long as that view point isn't suppressed, those people are considered tolerant of TMD's views? Give me a break.

Like I said, I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm very much down the middle on this one, but if you can't see the hypocrisy going on it's only because you are choosing not to.

i can't help what you've been told. Regardless, I did not think it necessary to include a disclaimer explaining my position as being an opinion.

Well, pardon my misunderstanding, but this came off very much as if you were speaking in matter-of-fact:

Quote:There seems to be some confusion among some here that criticism of one's stated view on a subject equals intolerance. You can tolerate a point of view while still disagreeing with it. You can even call it ignorant, stupid or any number of things. As long as you take no action to suppress it, you are tolerant.

Anyways, I hope you can understand my confusion of being told two different things about what is and isn't considered "tolerant"...

Not really.  Two different people gave you two different opinions.  You must be extremely confused all of the time since so many people have varying opinions on this board.

This thread is about same sex marriage and there were debates going on about the subject to varying degrees.  There was plenty of debate, but now we have been going on two pages about posters saying TMD is a villain when no one said that and that people are allowed to believe what they want even though no one said they couldn't.

Nah, surely everyone has the same opinion.  HTYV is a big Kirk Cousins fan just like TMD.

While I know TMD opposes same sex marriage since he said it in another thread, but no, no one specifically opposed it in this thread.  Feel free to find where I said they did.  What I did say is there was some good debate going back and forth until you decided to say people were doing things even thought they weren't.  I've asked you several time to provide quotes for people calling TMD stupid and saying he is a villain.  Also, you still haven't shown where someone said you aren't allowed to have a right to your beliefs. Still waiting...

So no one opposed same sex marriage in this thread. In fact, everyone in this thread agreed that same-sex marriage should be allowed. So, then, what were these good debates going on about that you keep referencing?

Also, why talk in circles?........

So I take it you're defending the core of liberalism because non-liberals aren't upholding it or something?  I'm confused.
