You're still skewing the discussion away from the point I disputed, that the government should not bring patients here proactively. Closing the borders is a different issue. Close them, build walls, live in bunkers - Ebola will eventually get here. Better to learn how to deal with it in the best facilities possible.

 

You're also naive if you think we should not be actively engaged in stopping the spread of Ebola in Africa. I know you're a strict isolationist, but we live in a global economy. That virus has a fertile feeding ground in under developed countries, and even in more modern countries, that are important to our national interest.

Yep, allowing direct flights here from those countries that had it was either the product of incompetence or as said, intentionally having motive for the virus to expeditiously enter our homeland.

I remember weeks ago when people like rollerjag were making light of the ebola scare on here and acting like it was so hard to contract, "its not airborne", and that the one's concerned about it coming over here were overreacting....

 

I remember specifically being one that pointed out that there was a lot we probably didn't know about the disease and to take such a laissez-faire attitude about it was foolish. Many piggy backed rollerjags stance implying that it would never be an issue over here as were not a 3rd world country/ we've got better facilities/ blah blah blah....

 

Welp, the WHO now estimates that the amount of new cases is anticipated to climb to 10,000 per week soon, almost double than it was previously, and the first person has now contracted it on our own soil. Not only that but they have upped the death rate to 70% from 50%. 

 

Still blowing off the threat, now??

There is no cure, yet. A cure will not be discovered in a field hospital, nor can treatment methods effectively studied. Our borders can be secured proactively by finding a cure or vaccine.

 

The Dallas incident is a red herring. We're talking about the government bringing patients in, where there is a much better chance of protocols being observed.

They having been dealing with Ebola outbreaks over there for how many years, and it never got here before. Not until they brought back infected people to treat here and those people survived. How long do you think it took word to get around that you can survive if you make it to America?

I read the article, they're argument is we can't seal off the 3 countries because they can't fight the disease on their own. That's not my point and never has been, sealing ourselves off from them is what we should have done. 

 

We're not even restricting incoming flights from those 3 nations, you've got people coming over here as if nothing was going on. You can send help and still seal yourself off from them. Not letting public flights from West Africa for example, only sending trained medical staff with precautions before re-entry would be another step.

 

There was plenty of ways to "seal them off" and still get them help.
