Quote:Having an ID has just always been apart of life for me. I've never lived outside of Florida, got a license when I was 16 and any time I've had to change it, I do it online. That's why I ask what's the issue with ID. You made some valid points I hadn't heard anyone make about the issue. I can see how it could be a problem for some of the disadvantaged. I'd be fine with making it a requirement with a grace period of even a couple of years to get it done. What you're describing is privilege, and your inability to understand your own and what it is. Pretty sure I was admitting I don't understand the issue with ID's and why people object, I'm trying to overcome my White Privilege Oklahomie cut me some slack man! ![]()
Quote:Pretty sure I was admitting I don't understand the issue with ID's and why people object, I'm trying to overcome my White Privilege Oklahomie cut me some slack man!lol I am actually ok with ID and have stated as such when I commented on being alright with a national ID (I know you won't agree with that though). I was in the same boat as you always having one since 15 (learner's permit) but if I couldn't drive or parents didn't and didn't teach me would I? I would like to think I would since it is invaluable to a lot of things in life but I dunno. I do agree that the education of the voter is crucial. I would wager neither party's voting base is even remotely educated on anything more than the rhetoric and "hot button" issues. That along with unlimited funds from special interests is the reason these corrupt jokers keep getting re-elected.

And your poor pitiful poors are highly privileged and refuse to take care of themselves or to exercise their privilege of participating in our society. I had to show an ID to vote in the primary.
You have to show an ID to buy spray paint (which is goofy) but, people have an issue with it to verify you are who you say you are when it comes to voting ONCE in your district. The only people who are against that are looking to use it for nefarious means. Really, can someone get me the percentage of 18+ citizens of this country that do not have an ID? $10 is too much? They can't be bothered to go to the DMV or wherever they have to go to get an ID? Bull hockey. Without requiring ID to vote, you can't be sure who they are. They wouldn't have dead people voting. They wouldn't have people voting numerous times. unless they have fake IDs, which would be more inconvenient for them...and they don't like that. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. I'm not surprised that you're completely oblivious to what my comment even means. Congratulations, you're as 'merican as they come.
Quote:I had to show an ID to vote in the primary. As I stated in my response to Eric, there many factors in why it makes voting difficult for a large group of people. In addition, I think the oppositions resistance to this is being misrepresented by the conservative media/pundits. Most of the left's issues with this, is that it seems these laws are being pushed in right before elections in an attempt to disenfranchise voters particularly those that typically vote left. I don't think anyone disagrees that having ID to vote is a bad thing in general just in the manner conservative politicians are trying to implement them and the timing of the push. the ideal time to push these is right after elections, with two years for the population to get in line. At least that is my position and perception on the issue.
Quote:I'm not surprised that you're completely oblivious to what my comment even means. Yes, I recognize the inherent superiority of my country and people over all others on Earth and look down on those who could participate but choose not to. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Yes, ID should be required to vote, period. If a voter doesn't have or can't afford the legally acceptable identification to prove they are who they represent, they could simply request an absentee ballot be mailed to their address of record within the precinct in which they are legally registered to vote. The only inconvenience for the right to cast a vote, a postage stamp. If it is too difficult for someone to acquire a postage stamp in this country, I question their ability and or desire to intelligently cast a vote.

Since ID isn't needed for absentee ballots? As an aside, in Oregon we all do mail in voting. You register to vote and whatever address you list they send your ballot to, then you mail it back in. Soooooo much more efficient than standing in line at polls. Quote:So no, ID should not be required to vote? Since ID isn't needed for absentee ballots? I almost ended up in Oregon, My Dad had a job offer in Oregon but ended up taking a job in St. Augustine instead. Sometimes I wonder how different things would be if we ended up Oregon.

Oddly enough I would only move back to FL if I could live in St Augustine. Love that city.
Everyone should get out and vote.

One of these five requirements must be met to vote in federal elections:
Minimum Income (Must be national average based on cost of living at location) (This does not include household income) Degree (Associates or higher) In-Education or Skill training Certified to vote (basically a CLEP on US Government) Federally Employed (Incl. Military) Just because everyone has the ability to vote doesn't mean they should. The Athenians believed that to vote you MUST be educated in politics, government, economics, and foreign affairs and you must contribute to the state. There was a reason for this. Just my opinion.
Quote:One of these five requirements must be met to vote in federal elections: Wow. For real?
Quote:So, my son plays Pop Warner ball in Jacksonville.I have yet to meet an intelligent liberal. That is the answer to your question. Words like educated, intelligent, or coherent render the word liberal an oxymoron.

It's is just hard to take some peoples opinions seriously on this board. Disagreeing is one thing, but this type of thinking is what we don't need in this country.
