Potential Cecil Shorts Contract?

#21

Quote:I agree his health is the issue. If he didn't have constant health issues, fine.

The $11M is guaranteed.

CS3 health is not.

We all know it's just a matter of time until he misses games. It just is.

I agree, if he can prove to stay healthy the remainder of this season, that will go a long way.

Quote:If a dedicated Justin Blackmon comes back with his head on straight, the Jaguars will let Cecil walk without any effort to resign him. If Blackmon can't resolve his demons the Jaguars would be wise to re-up with Cecil, you need 3 good receivers these days.

Darn you JB, darn you.

Let him "steal" 11 million from some other duck team. I wouldn't give no more than a dollar a game. $16 garuanteed. If Caldwell would stop being cheap they could've gave that type of contract to Emmanuel Sanders and let this gimp Shorts walk. He got nowhere close to that in Denver.

Yeah right

Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

I thought we were signing Calvin Johnson though so all of this talk is moot Wink

I think this along wth Cecils health is the reason why nothing has happened, they're taking the wait and see approach. I suppose they can always franchise him.

Does anyone know how many games CS3 has missed out of how many total games he has been with the Jags?

You can make the argument that Cecil is a better player than Sanders, he's played with two of the worst QB's in football, I salivate to think what CSIII could do in a 16 game season with good QB play, unfortunately his hammy's have an agenda of their own.

The Jaguars are in a tough spot, if you let CSIII walk there's no guarantee Marqise Lee an Allen Robinson take the necessary steps in year two. There is obvious uncertainty with Justin Blackmon as well, Cecil is at least productive when he plays, and is a nice insurance policy in case the above happens.

You're willing to gamble on this man staying healthy for 5 years with all that money? Not only he has a hamstring problem but he also has a concussion problem too. He's not that important.

$11M guaranteed isn't a lot of money for a receiver like Cecil, again assuming he's able to stay healthy. If the Jaguars ended up paying $37M over 5 years that means he was productive and on the field, if not they'll cut him with little financial ramifications. The Jaguars have the money to take a gamble.

The next 10 games are important, if he's healthy and productive there's no reason not to re-up with him, there is a lot of uncertainty with the Jaguars receivers, I just don't know if we can afford to lose a productive veteran.

When I told you all that Shorts' deal (or deal he'd be seeking) would be similar to Eric Deckers everyone told me I was wrong...

Cecil Shorts III quarters and a hammy. Not worth what we're paying him.
