The Jags have Ruined Bortles
|
Gotta remember our defense doesn't give up that 60yd td and we stuff them and kick fg to tie instead and pressure bortles to make a td being down by 10.
The team definitely needs to make better plays to put him in better position at the end of games. When your forced to get a td or we lose scenario not often are you gonna be successful.

Not if hill doesn't burn defense for 60 yds at that point it was 23 to 26 cin.
Jags 4 Life
The point i am trying to make is being down by 10 with 3 mins and change left, he is trying to make the play. Now if down by 3 he could throw away and go to next play as we are that close to a tie game.
The team needs to put him in better position to succeed. Did je play great today not at all did he look better in the 2nd half definitely did. Hurrns definitely helped he fpugjt for the ball all day. Wrs were not getting alot of separation and the oline wasn't blocking well at all overall the whole team loses together.
Jags 4 Life
Quote:He is doomed on this team. Play calling is atrocious, receivers create no separation, and the line doesn't pass protect. How is it anything to do with play calling when he forces throws into double coverage with wide open dudes in the flat. Dunno what you're watching but his decision making is piss poor.

Saying the Jags have "ruined" Bortles is harsh. I still believe he just isn't quite ready to play, but we really have no choice. He still makes some great plays every game, but he also makes way too many boneheaded plays. The majority of his INTs aren't even close, usually due to him refusing to give up on the play when there isn't one to be made.
I know some may laugh at this, but so far I'm seeing a little too much Favre and not enough Rodgers. I don't want a turnover machine who makes a few great playes here and there as my franchise guy. However, he is a rookie and rookies make silly mistakes. That's just the way it is. We have been given unrealistic expectations due to a few rookie QBs coming in and playing well over the last few years (Wilson, Big Ben, Dalton, Ryan). That just isn't the norm if you look at the history of the league. It has been mentioned before I'm sure but Peyton threw nearly 30 INTs his rookie season. Look how that turned out. Give it time. Bortles has already proved he isn't JaMarcus Russell or Blaine Gabbert. He can play, but he can use a run through the Kobayashi Maru test. lol

Some people on this board have no real understanding that every talented rookie is different and don't play like each other. Yes, I know people are bummed about our record, but did anyone seriously think we were going to have a winning record? All I really wanted out of this year was some progress, and guess what? We're getting that. What's even more impressive is that we pretty much started from scratch on offense this year and it already looks better than last year's offense. Yes, there are issues, but what do you expect from an offense with 7 rookies as starters (with the rest mostly 2nd year players)? Defense didn't play great today, but they were taking on a top 5 offense. Despite that, they did make some good plays during the game that gave the offense a chance to catch up. Last year, a team like the Bengals would have DESTROYED this team. This year, it took a rare miscue by the d-line for the Bengals to finally escape late in the 4th. There's still work to do, but they've made good progress from last year. It maybe a trite expression, but it fits here: Slow and steady wins the race. BTW - Love the Star Trek reference. This year is pretty much Blake's Kobayashi Maru. The key is how he makes adjustments from early on to late season.
Quote:This. Some people on this board have no real understanding that every talented rookie is different and don't play like each other. Not to mention we had all of our miscues on those blocked punts, as well. We were behind the 8 ball multiple times this game for sure. We have improved as a team. We play competitively against playoff teams. We beat a Cleveland team that's still competing for their division. The people said all they wanted this year was to be more competitive...that clearly was a ruse. Quote:Why is Bortles making more "Rookie" mistakes than Bridgewater and Carr combined? The vast majority of his INT's are just shocking decisionsIt was widely known that he was the least NFL ready but had the most upside, hence holding him on the bench for a season. He came in and looked amazing so he's starting, however the original perception has rang true. Does everyone just forget that? He shown lots of glimpses of being great following by boneheaded plays. I don't think that's surprising anyone. He'll be a good QB, but we must suffer this season. Everyone agreed they were juuuust fine with that a couple of months ago. Better to whittle away at the gun slinger mentality then try o get him to NOT be scared. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I'm numb. This made me laugh.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:Bortles is ruining himself by throwing the ball to the wrong team.Yep. Everyone else's fault but BB. Time for accountability on his part. Bonehead mistakes have to be fixed.

Believe it or not, both Carr and Bridgewater have better players around them on offense. James Jones, Cordarelle Patterson, Chase Ford (he has really stepped up in Rudolph's absence), offensive line play. They also aren't exactly playing at a high level. They're managing the game. Yes, Bortles' turnovers have been frustratingly stupid. You can't just point at other guys and use that as a reason to blast Bortles. They are different players in different offenses.

Also I remember reading, and thinking, he was our best player. Roethlisberger came out as a rookie and played lights out, as the season progressed he got worse and looked every bit the rookie. Yes, I'm aware they went to the SB, but that was in spite of his play towards the end of the year. Just a comparison

Did you miss quote me? I'm not blasting bortles, I was attempting to blast the guy blasting bortles. I think he'll be good just not right yet. I agree with what you are saying completely.

The same happened with Mark Sanchez, although I know that fact doesn't help my argument. Think about all of the good QBs who sat their first year. Culpepper, Brady, Carson Palmer, Aaron Rodgers, Brees, etc. Bortles wasn't supposed to play this season and this is why. He is raw, but now he is getting experience for better or worse...we'll see. Don't give up on him yet. There are plenty of examples of subpar performance by rookie QBs who ended up becoming good QBs.

Well, I was begging the TV for them to give Shoelace the ball at that point but they kept throwing it. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Oh no, I didn't direct that at you. You just quoted that guy and I didn't see a response so I just quoted your post. My mistake! Sorry.

Bortles isn't broken. He's a rookie.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I'm not worried that any permanent damage is done. It's ugly right now though.
