Florida State Amendments
|
Quote:I know personally dozens of Libertarians that are voting for Amendment 2 and I guarantee you not a single one is voting Democrat. Morgan is a tool but that doesn't change the reality of the situation, we are wasting millions fighting a war on drugs. It shouldn't really be that controversial that at least marijuana is a stupid line in the sand to draw. And without the youth vote those Libertarians aren't enough to get it passed. Morgan has a good plan for A2 that on its face isn't an issue, but the collateral damage of pulling more Democrats to the polls will ultimately damage the Libertarian platform by increasing the socialist clout in the legislature. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

As I understand it the medical marijuana which would be prescribed would be void of any significant level of THC so the benefits to the stoners is moot anyway. The stoners would continue to purchase on the black market.

First of all, thanks to the board administrators and moderators for finally realizing we can discuss elections without getting into some nasty arguments. Even though I am registered to vote I never got a sample ballot in the mail from the Alachua County Democratic Party. All I know is what I saw on TV and most political ads are against the two governor candidates.
I have always strongly opposed the concept of medical marijuana because the FDA would have approved it like any other prescription drug if that was really a good idea. I can see someone asking his doctor for a prescription so he can use marijuana as a recreational drug and not get jailed for it. How are police supposed to prevent that from happening? All they can do is catch a person smoking it, then ask to see a prescription. If you can show the cop that document, he can't arrest you for recreational use of marijuana that you cheated to get. So I am voting NO all the way on Amendment 2.

For the people who are against medical marijuana; remember someday YOU may need it for comfort.

I don't even argue for it on the grounds of medical benifits, which in sure they're are plenty over pharmaceuticals, but simply on the grounds it's not governments business what your doctor prescribes you.

So I am voting NO all the way on Amendment 2.You could use the same argument for any prescription drug that people lie to get and use for recreational purposes. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be made available for those who need it. And the FDA won't approve pot because they have no control over who grows it. They have some control over pharmaceutical companies and who makes the drugs. The FDA is about as useful as most other government organizations. They're as corrupt as the others for sure,

All I know is what I saw on TV and most political ads are against the two governor candidates. Another example of an uninformed voter, voting merely on their own incorrect perception of the issue. Also, relying on TV adds to formulate an opinion of a candidate is asinine. Do some research on the candidates...don't just accept TV ads (which are inherently biased to the extreme) at face value. Again, people ask doctors to prescribe them opiates when they don't necessarily need them. So should we make percocet, vicodin, roxicet, oxycontin, etc illegal just because it has been abused before? Lets just ignore all of the positives and focus on the negatives? Do you honestly think opiate abuse is a far greater issue? Do some research on the candidates...don't just accept TV ads (which are inherently biased to the extreme) at face value. I don't rely on TV ads to formulate opinions of candidates and issues. When I lived in Ohio I was a very informed voter, but here, all I have to learn about who and what is on the ballot is the Internet. The days of reading local newspapers are over. Other drugs are abused for a variety of reasons. Often people start to use them for a medical purpose and that somehow leads to abuse. Brett Favre did that years ago. When I was prescribed Vicodin because Advil is not strong enough, the doctor was only allowed to order a few pills (I think 12) with no refills because of people like Brett. So I am not too worried about people abusing opiates because prescriptions for them already are tightly controlled.

Florida is the most corrupt state in the country as far as medical practices go. Pill farms are huge here, but no one is advocating getting rid of the opiates. Just tighter control over the "pain clinics"

People can and will get around control measures put in place. I don't, but I knew people in my past who did. Folks can be resourceful when they want something bad enough.
