Is the SEC overrated?

Quote:Yeah you're right. It's never happened before. You think Florida beat Georgia because they were more fired up? You think they steam rolled Georgia because they were their rival? No, they steam rolled them because they were more physical and Georgia couldn't handle it. I get Hail's point and may agree with it to a certain point, but teams dont go out there and win games based on pure emotion. They go out and win games based on talent and coaching. Quote:You think Florida beat Georgia because they were more fired up? You think they steam rolled Georgia because they were their rival? Do you think practices are equally intense for Alabama during Florida Atlantic week and Auburn week? Do you think that Alabama is playing with the same intensity if they are up 14-0 in both games? Maybe sometimes, but not all the time. When playing against an elite opponent or a rival, I think it's far less likely they get lackadaisical. I don't think any of us are saying that emotion is the biggest factor. Talent and coaching are the biggest factors, IMO. I just think that level of opponent is directly related to other facets of the game like preparation, focus, and intensity. When Michigan has a terrible season, there is always that feeling that the season is salvaged "as long as we beat Ohio St.". Michigan took 11-0 Ohio St. to the wire last year and looked like a completely different team than we saw all season. That Devin Gardner guy that can't play quarterback threw 32 for 45 for 451 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 INTs. There's no way you can watch that game and not think that Gardner's focus and motivation were peaked due to who they were playing.
Are there some people here who don't believe that rivalry games motivate players? You have GOT to be kidding me. The expression, "That's why they play the game" was born from those historic rivalries. Duke vs North Carolina, Fl vs GA, OSU vs UM, Auburn vs Alabama, USC vs UCLA.
Trust me, when the Florida Gators take the field against Florida State later this year, ignore both team's records and watch the magic. As Hail said above ^^ The season is salvaged if you just win that one game. Jeez- we got a bunch of Keyboard QBs in here...

You're right...some of us have never played football in our life and have no clue. Now Hail wants to talk about motivation in practice....do guys get a little fired up to play the game, sure, but it all boils down to a few things. Execution, players making plays, and coaching. AGAIN, after the first drive or two, the players settle down and its like any other game. You can see it time and time again. We show less advertisements to registered users. The biggest thing that is affected by rivalry is pre and post game, and thats about it.
FSU had some pretty good pre game scuffles with Miami and UF back in the day. UM got in a pretty good fight post game with FIU a few years ago. What happened in between had little to do with the rivalry.
So what some of you are saying is FSU plays with the same intensity against The Citadel that they would against Clemson, Florida, Miami, etc?
Got it. Quote:It's ok man. He won't be able to hurt you anymore after this year. he hasnt hurt me at all. im not an unconsenting woman, or a grocery store chain, or a cafeteria full of people just trying to enjoy their lunch.....
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:So where would you rank the undefeated national champs? i said i dont think he is good as people think and you put words in my mouth to try and make it seem like you have a good point? i think jameis is overrated and FSU is not as good this year as they were last year. Jameis winston, in my opinion, is not going to be a great pro QB. Heisman? ok buddy, good one. how is vince young working out? jason white? Matt Leinart? troy smith........tebow..........rg3................. a bunch of perennial pro bowlers!!!! anyway, id rank FSU somewhere in the 3-8 range.

there isn't a conference that exists in the world that isn't overrated by its own fans
Quote:i said i dont think he is good as people think and you put words in my mouth to try and make it seem like you have a good point?Don't let your hate for one player demean a talented team. They are ranked 2, I'd say should be 1, but regardless FSU is a good team and that QB who you think isn't any good is the main reason for the success.

Quote:just because theyre a good team and rated #2 doesnt mean that theyre the best team or the second best.Well until someone beats them they have a valid argument that they are the best team in the nation. Time will tell. Quote:Well until someone beats them they have a valid argument that they are the best team in the nation. Time will tell. i disagree with that. you have to start taking SOS into consideration and such. but time will tell and like i said, i really hope for a matchup like bama vs fsu for the title or even just first playoff game.

Quote:i disagree with that. you have to start taking SOS into consideration and such. I'm with you here. It's even worse in college basketball. The ranking system should be a ranking system, not a ladder system that rewards "not losing" more than it rewards body of work.
Quote:You're right...some of us have never played football in our life and have no clue. Preparation is a huge part of college football, even more so than the NFL. There is a much wider range of systems and personnel, so teams see things completely different on a week to week basis. Having a good, focused week of practice is a key factor in the preparation. I'm not saying it's the only or even most important factor, but it most definitely IS a factor. It's like you're forgetting that we are talking about 18-22 year old kids. You don't think they get lazier/careless when preparing for and playing FCS schools? Come on.... You ignored a point I made earlier. Do you think teams ever "play down" to their opponents? Why? Now use that same reasoning... Do you think teams ever "play up" to their opponents? Why? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! No, that is what it has morphed into though.

Quote:So what some of you are saying is FSU plays with the same intensity against The Citadel that they would against Clemson, Florida, Miami, etc?You do understand that if you go half tail that's when injuries hurt. Jameis was trying to throw the ball with just as much accuracy, run the ball just as hard etc., as he was in The Citadel game as he will against Miami.
