FSU in another tight game

#21

It's really hard to tell if FSU will lose to UF or not. I'm obviously a Gator fan, but FSU has played really good defenses this year. They've played Clemson (#2), Louisville (#6), Miami (#15), and BC (#16).

Florida is #10 right now.

FSU hasn't played any great offenses, and their defense is #50. UF's offense has been getting a little better over the past few weeks, especially with running the ball.

It should be a good game, but FSU has had like 8-9 close games where it came down to the buzzer, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that continue. You can bet your bottom dollar that Muschamp is going to do everything he can to go out in style by ruining FSU, even though they'd just go into their title game and probably get back into the playoffs.

"At the very least, there should have been a flag on Winston for unsportsmanlike conduct. But as Mike Pereira, the former vice president of officiating for the NFL, explained, it should have been an ejection."

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/22769...et-flagged

Mike Pereira from FOX Sports believed that Winston should have been ejected from the game, saying:

Quote:"Contact with an official can clearly lead to an ejection. Webster was doing his job, which was to hold the snap until the referee cleared him in this situation. Winston clearly pushes him out of the way so he can get the snap off.

That's a foul, folks."

I could link several more articles but I guess you are right...... I'm reaching. what does mike pereira know?

I didn't see the game, but yea, he's lucky to not have been tossed. Jameis got away with hitting a player earlier in the season too.

Shocking! It's always humorous when agenda gets in the way of enjoying a ball game.

Mike Pereira stands up for an official - you've got a scoop!

Did you see the play? I did, and I though it was funny - Winston was so focused on getting the play off he was full steam ahead.

And those poor little officials, allowing themselves to be bullied like that. Too bad they aren't allowed to call infractions when they see one ... oh, wait.

With all the stuff one can use, legitimately, against Winston and you go with this?

yea I was surprised by that play.  The announcers were laughing it off as though it was all good fun, but I was surprised a flag wasnt thrown.  You cant touch a referee let alone push one out of the way.

Ref needs to get out of Jameis' way next time. He's got games to win and can't be slowed down by some official.

Dave Cutia, ESPN's college officiating expert and the former Pac-10 coordinator of officiating, said FSU should have been penalized 15 yards and Winston should have been ejected for the contact.

Rules are rules. The ref was standing over the ball because it wasn't supposed to be snapped until the ref gave the OK. Pushing him out of the way isn't getting the OK.

Quote:Just want to point out again the problem with allowing conference champs an automatic bid.  This is a really tight and exciting game.  This game is HUGE.  But if you allow conference champs in the playoffs this game becomes absolutely irrelevant.

How is the game irrelevant? FSU has not won the ACC championship yet. The debate is over requiring teams to win the conference championship, which would prevent more than one SEC team from getting in.

Who cares if a conference has more than one team in the playoffs? If the goal of the playoffs is to get the best teams in the country to play, why does it matter where those teams come from as long as they are the best.

I honestly really surprised this has to be explained. But basically SEC is considered the end all be all when it comes to college football, so any team outside of SEC that makes it to the (for now) 4 team playoffs, is compared to SEC. Oregon is going to wipe the floor with everyone this year, including FSU, but oh well!

You certainly would not want all four teams to be in the SEC and teams in other conferencess crying foul over yet another example of conference bias. I think it is important to have at least two conferences represented.

Because FSU had already clinched a spot in the ACC championship game.  Didnt matter if they beat BC or lost to them, they'd still play in the ACC title game.

Like it or not, believe it or not, Winston should have at least been flagged for what occurred late in the game. Not sure why some are surprised as to what the ref was doing. It's not uncommon. It's relatively new based on the rules, but this is the norm now. The ref is there to let the defense "match up"

I know the SEC is considered the best conference right now, but that's not my point. If more than one team from a conference, ANY CONFERENCE, are the best teams then they should be in the playoffs regardless of what conference they play in. So what if they get compared to the SEC, because getting compared to them isn't going to stop them from winning if they're the best team.

If Miami and FSU were the two top teams in the country right now and both going to be in the playoffs would everyone be running around crying about ACC bias? Or what about Michigan and Ohio State...bet we wouldn't hear a peep on here about that.

Actually the judge should have stood (or held) the ball at the (in front of the center) LOS between the defense and offense.  He was in the wrong position.

Usually the judge then runs backwards between the center and NG, towards the backfield blows the whistle indicating play to resume, or start, and is out of harms way. That is usually the case for a ref delaying the snap to protect himself.

The ref apologized because he knew he was in the wrong position. If he was in the right position for delaying the snap, none of this would have happened.

Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
