Are we shopping Blackmon?
|
You know, if we are going to make a trade, why don't we send one of our QB's to the Rams? Whoever they will give us the best pick for. Of course they probably don't want either but heck, at this point I'd take a conditional 7th round pick for Gabbert. In a way it would be sending him home.

Regarding Jonathan Cyprien, time will tell if he pans out the way Dave Caldwell and co. envisioned when drafting him. The training camp time that Cyprien missed with a hamstring injury when he was on the PUP list probably set Cyprien back substantially. It's hard enough for a rookie from a major school to make the transition to the NFL. From a somewhat smaller school, the transition is greater in most cases. Next year at this time, a much clearer picture of Cyprien's NFL future should be present. When offering the opinion that the Jaguars should cash in their chips if the unlikely event that another team offers the Jaguars a top 10 draft pick for Justin Blackmon, it's under the assumption that Dave Caldwell is a good or at least an average caliber NFL G.M. Quote:and Jared Allen also was sitting on 2 strikes as well, remember?.... The Vikings are fortunate that Jared Allen didn't get the 3rd strike. Maybe the change of environment and the wakeup call that the Chiefs were moving on w/o Allen was a reality check for him. Regardless, the Jaguars are in a difficult position because of Justin Blackmon's bad judgment. You know as well as anyone how much of a setback it would be for the Jaguars if Blackmon made another major off the field mistake. The Jaguars are dealing with a small margin of error. In essence, if another team unexpectedly offered the Jaguars a top 10 pick for Blackmon, it would provide the Jaguars the opportunity to start with a clean slate.

What a difference a few weeks makes eh? I'll bet if this thread had started after that pre-season game where he got into an argument on the sideline, people would be happy to take a 2nd. He is clearly an elite talent, almost at that level where you say he is priceless in terms of a trade, but what is going on between his ears remains a mystery and only those closest too him can really know how likely he is to screw up again. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.

Excellent comments. The bitter reality of the situation with Justin Blackmon and all players that have 2 strikes on their NFL record is all it takes is one moment of temptation to sideline the player for at least a season and consequences for the NFL franchise as a result.
Blackmon for a top10 pick...lol...you guys are dumb.

Quote:Mike Evans is a stud. I would take that dude in heart beat. I would be intrigued to taken him in the 2nd round. Evans, Blackmon and CSIII would be ridiculous with Bridgewater or whoever is throwing it. Quote:That said, I'd love to see Evans paired up with Blackmon. He'd be a nice compliment to the corps. We don't have that "big" WR on the roster, unless you count that recent Williams add or Burton.Blackmon and Burton are the exact same height. Williams is 6'5", but after watching him from up close and personal during the Broncos game, I have a hard time taking him for anything more than a stopgap. He wasn't able to get separation from the Broncos DB's. And trading Blackmon would be the definition of idiocy. Tanking teams trade off their veteran players who aren't going to be around for a playoff run anyway. They don't trade away players who will be key pieces of that playoff run.
Quote:Excellent comments. I guess we should have traded him then huh? Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.
Quote:Why would you even do that? You'll never replace the caliber of WR Blackmon is if you deal him. He's top 5 in the NFL at his position type good. He is a legit threat to score from anywhere on the field at any given time. He's proven this in the Houston and St Louis games. Quote:Because one more suspension he is out for a year and we would most likely cut him anyway. I also think Mike Evans can be just as good or better and he is younger with no trouble history. Some people just don't ever get it!! We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:People Blackmon is not someone we dont trade unless we get about 4 first round draft picks. Just think how many times we have missed badly in the first round! Alualu, Gabbert, Harvey, Matt Jones, Leftwich. One of those picks we get in the first round could easily pan out to be another one of these players. Blackmon is a rare extremely talented player, and who only knows how much better he would be with a half way competent QB at the helm. I don't know why we would start from scratch trying to develop a new player. Logic eludes many posters on this board. Even if that new player is good, are we just going to turn around and trade them too? Some posters on this message board are more obsessed with draft picks than they are with the actual talent in-front of them.Yes it does!
Quote:I guess we should have traded him then huh? Do you really think the team just found out today that he would be suspended?
Quote:Do you really think the team just found out today that he would be suspended? You really think they would have had him out of the field taking away evaluation time from other guys if they knew he was headed for R Jay Soward territory? Quote:I guess we should have traded him then huh?If the suspension has been announced, it means that all appeals have been heard. This has probably been in the pipeline for a week or more, and any team which would have been investigating a trade for Blackmon could have easily seen that he was appealing a substance abuse policy violation. Would've killed a trade right then and there. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:You really think they would have had him out of the field taking away evaluation time from other guys if they knew he was headed for R Jay Soward territory? Well Mike Brown sure did get more playing time last week. Just sayin'.

Quote:Well Mike Brown sure did get more playing time last week. Just sayin'.So they knew for a week? That might be right. They should have been shopping him back when they were trading Monroe. Quote:I guess we should have traded him then huh? Sadly, Justin Blackmon's actions made those that share our opinion look correct. While some players do overcome substance/ behavior problems, countless other players don't. The recent death of former DE Reggie Rogers was a reminder to me what alcohol abuse and irresponsibly ultimately could lead to. If by chance you have an opportunity to get good value for a player with Justin Blackmon's history, it's a trade that for all practical purposes must be made. |
