The Possibilities of Trading Back
|
I wouldn't rule out taking a QB.
I'm personally not a fan of Mariota or Winston but if Caldwell thinks one of them is a franchise QB I wouldn't be upset that he takes them. I'm a Bortles supporter through and through but we've passed on guys too many times in the past, like Big Ben for example, because we think we're set at QB. If you don't take them you better get a hell of a player or a king's ransom in a trade back and get several darn good players. Passing on franchise QB's when you're playing at the level this team is can cost you your job. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:If you are just looking for a game changer who can help us score more points every week, any offensive position will satisfy you, not just a wide receiver. Not all game changers are wide receivers. It's not just a wide receiver. This is Amari Cooper I'm talking about here. The guy's an incredible talent, and an instant boost to the offense. I don't think there's a player more ready to step in and make an impact than Cooper coming out this year.
Quote: If you don't take them you better get a hell of a player or a king's ransom in a trade back and get several darn good players. This is how I feel too, if they have a high enough grade on a QB, either taking him or trading back is the way to go. Quote:I wouldn't rule out taking a QB. There is no chance Dave C will pick another QB in the first round. He has to believe that Bortles can improve (and in an ideal world he would still want BB learning his game from the bench) and a second season for a big pick like that has to be the minimum. Besides, replacing a high-value pick like Bortles after just one season would be a major admission of failure and effectively career suicide. Having said that, picking a QB late in the draft to develop from the bench might make sense, if they've given up on Henne. I agree with everyone else about the need for a star though. This team is very very short on them at the moment. And you would probably have to say our WR pool is solid but unspectacular at the moment. Yes, Hurns and ARob have had some good games, but we haven't got a superstar. Maybe one of them will develop into one, but eleven games gone, one hasn't emerged yet... Then Dave better be damn sure that guy isn't going to be a high end QB. Because you don't pass on those at the top of the draft. You don't pass on them regardless unless you get a heck of a trade down. Passing on Big Ben because you have Byron Leftwich is career suicide. I agree, the team needs a star. If Dave passes on a QB he has a HIGH grade on then he better draft a bigger star than he has so far. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Wow. Nobody is talking about trading back for an OT. What Jaguars games are you guys and gals watching? The 90s have been gone. Boselli and Searcy aren't out there. If we trade back get an OT and protect Bortles.
BORTLES ISN'T A FRANCHISE QB. FOURNETTE WILL BE A BUST.
Quote:Cooper = M. Lee look at the stats.right because stats are how to evaluate college players from different conferences
Quote:Wow. Nobody is talking about trading back for an OT.Yeah I'd be ok with it depending on how far we trade back. I don't see them taking another OT in the top 5, especially if there's a pass rusher with a higher grade available. For me, it just depends on how the top OL grade out in this draft, names to keep an eye on are Scherff from Iowa and La'el Collins from LSU. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Our receiving unit caught 5 passes as a whole. That's inexcusable. I put that more on the offensive line than anything else. Blake had very little time to throw.
Quote:I put that more on the offensive line than anything else. Blake had very little time to throw. Some on OL some on BB. If Lee continues to improve, our WR core will be fine. Quote:Cooper = M. Lee look at the stats. You're going to have to go a bit deeper than that to build a convincing argument for your assertion. Quote:Wow. Nobody is talking about trading back for an OT. I'd be all for an OT, but I feel Cooper is a much better talent than any of the OT's coming out this year are. Quote:I put that more on the offensive line than anything else. Blake had very little time to throw. I'm not a huge believer in O-lineman being worth top ten picks. If Caldwell can get a couple more finds like Linder and Bowanko in the draft next year, I feel that'd be more ideal than anything. Quote:You're going to have to go a bit deeper than that to build a convincing argument for your assertion. cooper is good but he is being overexposed and overblown because he plays for alabama. he isnt even as good as sammy watkins in my opinion. there are people ive talked to that say he should be the number 1 overall pick and that he is the best WR to come out since calvin. sorry guys, cool down on amari.

Do you have any specific reasons for being down on him? Quote:Do you have any specific reasoning for being down on him? im not "down" on him. i just dont think he is top 5 worthy. think of it this way....... how many championships has calvin johnson won the lions? is amari cooper as good as megatron? this is a WR we are talking about. seattle has a bunch of nobodies at WR. you can find very good ones in the later rounds nowadays. premium positions to take there are linemen, tackle or pass rusher. id say CB if there was a big time guy available but this doesnt look like the year for that. id like to see marcus peters taken in the second or a trade down from where we will be picking and grabbing cody prewitt and oakman.

BB has adequate weapons at WR, just needs better protection and another weapon at TE. Quote:yeah IMO he's a fringe top 10 player but not on caliber with a Watkins or Evans of last year, just a notch below, he might not even be the best WR in this draft i agree with all that. a pass catching TE would be huge. Robinson, Lee, Hurns, Sanders, and Shorts(if he is still here) are pretty good. If Blackmon makes it back, that is a terrific group. They would all compliment each other perfectly. just need blake to start clicking and I think the biggest thing to make our offense better will be to upgrade the OC. the best thing for the jaguars is going to be trading down, by far.

Calvin Johnson may not have won the Lions anything, but he's a game changing player, something Jacksonville doesn't have. Adding a WR like Cooper gives Blake an entirely new dimension on Offense to work with. The same argument can go to pass rusher as well. The Jags are close to the top of the league in sacks and they were absolutely stifling against Indianapolis. That didn't help them win the game at all. The team has to be able to score, something they're sorely incapable of doing. Quote:yeah IMO he's a fringe top 10 player but not on caliber with a Watkins or Evans of last year, just a notch below, he might not even be the best WR in this draft I like Cooper better than Watkins, but that's besides the point, seeing as Watkins is a very good player who I would also love having on the team. Cooper looks so much smoother to me than Watkins does, and he has pro-style experience which will help him transition better. He glides across the field and makes everything look easy. He's not as powerful as Watkins, but he doesn't need to be with his ability to get open in space all the time.
Quote:the best thing for the jaguars is going to be trading down, by far.I agree but if we're stuck at #1 or #2 as long as we get an elite player, I'm totally OK with that as well |
