Evening all, I have accepted a position at my work that will have me traveling the country opening new stores. My first assignment will be in Cleveland in January/February for a month. I was born and raised right here in Jax and although I have traveled to some cold and even snowy areas I have never driven in it. I could opt to take a taxi from the airport to the hotel then car pool as needed with other team members but I would prefer to have a rental car. How steep of a learning curve is there. If I tell the rental company that I'm from Florida they should expect the car to sustain some damage right? Lol. Thought, opinions and various other ramblings appreciated.

I've lived in Iowa all my life so I haven't had a choice but to drive in lovely winter weather.  Personally, if you drive smart, with a little common sense, I don't find it a big deal.  I worry more about everyone else driving more than I do myself.  Drive defensively (again common sense.   :thumbsup and expect to take longer if the weather is covered in rain/snow.  Give yourself extra distance between vehicles etc.  A lot of it depends on what type of driver you are to start with.  If you have a lead foot you better be careful.  :teehee:

 

If by chance they try to give you a rear-wheel drive vehicle for your first time, I'd recommend asking for a front wheel drive vehicle.  It'll make a big difference, particularly for a rookie snow/ice driver.

That's where I'm from! I was born in Columbus and grew up in the same county. If you go there you probably will see a lot of things I would recognize because I have only lived in Florida almost three years.

Sightseeing near my hometown means the Columbus Zoo and adjacent waterpark called Zoombezi Bay, Franklin Park Conservatory, Ohio Theater, Ohio Statehouse (free tour), many parks, an art museum, and a replica of the Santa Maria. The NHL and MLS have teams there too (Blue Jackets and Crew). If you like pizza, nothing beats Donato's. There also is a huge indoor/outdoor mall called Easton.

You Sir are in need of Snow Crutches in the form of an 4 wheel drive SUV. As a peraon that's NEVER experienced winter driving up north, you're in for an rude awakening. Watch out for "Black Ice"... Google is your friend...

What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

When it first snows it's weird to drive down a street and have no depth perception because everything is white. And you can't see lines so people will drive down the middle of the road. It's a weird feeling.


Also try to avoid driving on icy roads if possible. I'll take snow over ice any day.
