Well FSU moved back didnt they?  I think they were 3rd last week.  They really arent the 4th best team in the country but just no way you can leave them out.  But they are clearly being punished for not being as good as the others.


I'm surprised they left Ohio St at 5.  Maybe they are waiting to see what the new QB does next week.  If he plays well and they beat Wisconsin they are probably deserving of that.  If not, they'll fall and ranking them 5th made no matter.  I think they lose.

 

Would seem surprising to have Baylor leapfrog TCU next week if they have to jump that many spots to get there.  Baylor would have to blow out Kansas St while TCU would have to struggle.  I'm sure it will cause a lot of debate since Baylor had the head to head.  But I think you can make a very reasonable argument that TCU is the better team.

 

Also with Arizona sitting there at 7th have to think a win over Oregon will put them in prime position.  Especially if someone like Ohio St were to lose.

These rankings have become a joke. I'm not even an FSU fan, but twelve wins is two more wins than ten wins. FSU has won 12 games. TCU has won 10. How can TCU's resume be better? The rankings have become purely subjective now. 

 

Quoting Jeff Long: "I think they are very close to being No. 3. We spent a lot of time in debate on Florida State, and TCU for that matter. Florida State continues to be that undefeated team. But in many of the committee members' eyes, they've struggled in some games against unranked opponents. That has had an impact."

 

What happened to a win being a win? I strangely miss the BCS rankings.

Ohio State moved up one spot. TCU was #5 last week. If Ohio State wins and either Alabama, Oregon, or FSU loses, the Buckeyes should get in.

 

No way does Florida State deserve to be in the top four. I like seeing the Horned Frogs leapfrog the Seminoles, but wonder if there is any scenario that would shut them out of the playoffs.

TCU's scheduling is just as shoddy as FSU's, but they aren't being penalized for it. They did, however, have more off weeks, played fewer games, and have a loss on their resume. Don't give me this "well they won convincingly" stuff that the committee is feeding us. Their reasoning for ranking the teams changes every week. It's one thing to be subjective; it's another to be arbitrary. The CFP rankings are a beauty contest. At least the computer element of the BCS rankings was objective and didn't penalize teams for winning ugly. What if next year we have a team that has a historically good defense but a middling offense that just barely wins all their games? Will we penalize them for not blowing everyone out?

 

I understand that what they are trying to do is set up some interesting matchups by putting the two southeastern teams in the Sugar Bowl and the two western teams in the Rose Bowl (assuming these rankings hold and the top 4 win), but the fact remains that it is sending the wrong message.

To me, it's about TV and money. It's better for television for a Alabama-FSU game. I have to think that somehwere in the back the bowls are saying, "We'd rather have..."

This is it exactly.  FSU fans should be happy they are #4.  Now they have a much shorter trip to root for their team.  I'd imagine people would turn up in droves to New Orleans to support the Noles.

 

It would suck to drop down, but in the bigger picture its better.  There is no way Ohio State jumps to 4.

I like the possibility of an FSU v Alabama matchup in the Sugar Bowl.  Great for the fans who may be able to drive over to New Orleans instead of heading out to CA.
