Accuracy Mariota's #1 concern....

Quote:Yeah but, here's my thing; I like football. Hell, I like just watching football. So why don't I just go ahead and watch the whole thing? You know, kinda get the feel of the game and see how one play stacks on top of the one before. See the ebb and flow as the two teams try to match up with one another. I mean, that's still cool isn't it? Only if one of the teams has a player that you're starting on your fantasy team. Duh. Quote:Only if one of the teams has a player that you're starting on your fantasy team. Oddly enough, most of my fantasies do not involve football players.

I feel he actually has a good accuracy when he's not pressured. How he handles pressure is much more worrying.

Quote:I feel he actually has a good accuracy when he's not pressured. How he handles pressure is much more worrying. Its fun to make up stuff isn't it? From everything I've read Mariota is cool as a cucumber in the pocket. Do you have a link to verify your expert analysis?

This is what really concerns me about Mariota. Physically its all there, but I'm not sure i would gamble a top 2 pick on a QB who's biggest question is accuracy.

Mariota is the truth. I'd be thrilled with him or Bridgewater. I feel like people are forgetting how young Marcus is. Our team is very young as well and he has the time to progress and build on his game as we continue to rebuild this team. No one can deny the fact that Mariota has a lot of upside.

Mariota is the better prospect. What he has done was done against much better competition.
Regards.........the Chiefjag Quote:Accuracy and Pocket Presence is the two most important skill sets to have I'm my opinion.Ding ding ding. You can't really teach those things. I wouldn't touch Mariota with a 10 foot pole. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote:Accuracy and Pocket Presence is the two most important skill sets to have I'm my opinion. Absolutely. Another concern for Mariota is that I don't see him line up under Center much, if at all. Everything seems to go from the shotgun. Thats something else he'll have to adjust to in the NFL... He's just too much of a project to draft at 1 or 2.
Quote:Mariota is the better prospect. What he has done was done against much better competition.I agree. Level of competition is a great measuring stick when evaluating QB's. I mean look at the competition guys like Jamarcus Russell, Tim Tebow, Rex Grossman, Jason Campbell and Jason White faced. Then you look at known busts like Kurt Warner, Doug Williams, Joe Flacco, Kaeprenick, Rich Gannon, Big Ben and Steve Young, who inflated their draft stock by playing terrible competition. I just couldn't imagine any of those guys playing in a Super Bowl. If only the GM's that selected the, were as wise. That is as strong an argument for level of competition as you can make.

I think Mariota has crazy upside - but the selfish fan in me would love to see a QB coming to Jax that is a little more prepared for the jump to the NFL.
Watching a really raw rookie take his lumps is gonna be tough on the heels of 2 dismal seasons. Would be nice if they land on a prospect that isn't as raw. Quote:I think Mariota has crazy upside - but the selfish fan in me would love to see a QB coming to Jax that is a little more prepared for the jump to the NFL.I agree. But sometimes risk isn't always a bad thing. Look at the Bengals on the 2011 draft. Andy Dalton or Colin Kaepernick. Do you think they would take the riskier, but higher upside prospect a 2nd time around? (Disclaimer: this isn't comparing Bridgewater or Mariota to the QBs listed above just the situation of higher floor vs higher ceiling)

Quote:Were we talking about Mariota or Gabbert? Because everything you just said could have applied to us drafting either.Yep. I can't help but thinking that at times when watching the Mariota cut-ups. Especially sense he's never under center and gets rid of the ball quickly on lots of short throws - therefore rarely stepping into a pocket. While I think he'll be much, much better than Gabbert - I think he may take a while to adapt.
Quote:I agree.I'd take Kaepernick every single time. Dalton's essentially maxed out and will never get any better than he already is, so the problem ends up being do you shell out big money to put up with "good enough to make the playoffs" or do you shoot for "potential Super Bowl-winning franchise QB" instead? |
