Sorry for linking the partisan OSU video, but it's something that I think should be talked about. Was Miami robbed of a National Title in 02?
Of course I remember it. I will never understand why many people said it was a bad call because all of the replays showed the Miami player clearly holding Chris Gamble in the end zone.
Terrible call. He may have had his hands on him but he didnt pull him or impede his ability to catch it. That would be a borderline call now. Back then when they werent calling pass interference nearly as tightly it was a really bad call.

Quote:I hate Miami, but Miami got screwed. Miami screwed itself. Want to win the game? Don't grab a wide receiver in the end zone on fourth down. Quote:Miami screwed itself. Want to win the game? Everyone in the country knows it was a bad call except Ohio fans.
I didnt see holding either. His hands were clearly touching Gamble as the play was developing... which wasnt illegal then and I dont think is illegal now. But you can see Sharpe lose contact with Gamble as the ball was in there air. And then regain contact as Gamble was dropping the ball. I will say it looked like Sharpe wanted to grab Gamble with his left hand as Gamble was going up for the ball but I dont think he actually did.

If I am blind, so is the newspaper reporter who wrote the correct call would have been defensive holding because Chris Gamble was held before Craig Krenzel threw the ball. Finally someone actuallly goes into detail about why it could have possibly been a bad call. Perhaps back judge Terry Porter saw a clear attempt to interfere and based his call on that.
Miami got screwed on that call. Big time. That wasn't even class to PI

Miami had a chance to keep Maurice Clarett out of the end zone. If they had done that, the penalty would not matter.

If they had done that, the penalty would not matter. There are documentaries (ESPN, All about the U) that go into the players thoughts about what happened after. I wouldn't expect you to do your due diligence before talking more about it though. They basically said they celebrated like they had won a title because the same ref that threw the flag said it was an incomplete pass. They were in shock that they changed it up and they were deflated. FYI, its not just OSU haters saying it was a bad call. It's every fan in college football that isn't a Ohio State fan. Then come to find out they have to keep playing. Do you understand how mentally deflating that is? How that can mess with the psyche of a team and its players? More in wrestling, but I have seen this on quite a few occassions. It's a game changer. And this one in that game was the worst I've seen. Not only was it not PI, but it changed the momentum instantly.

If he saw clear intent, why did he wait three seconds before throwing the flag? Why did the other official who was no more than ten feet away signal incomplete rather than throw a flag?

I don't even think there's a point explaining. We're all just OSU haters. JW, Florida State fans are defending Miami. They have a much bigger rivalry with Miami than they ever will OSU....but they are just haters, right? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I am an OSU Hater, but that wasn't PI, and not because of my Ohio St. Bobcat hatred. It is because it wasn't PI. More so then FSU. I don't hate FSU.
I also cannot explain my hatred entirely of OSU either, them and ND.

one of the worst calls in history.
Porter waved incomplete. waited for the Miami guys to celebrate then threw a flag a whole 8 seconds after the play was over and he waved incomplete. numerous analysts and referees around the country were vocal about how bad the call was. it was just a complete shamockery. |
