Politicians should start wearing company logos on their suits so when can all see who is providing them with bribes campaign contributions.
Okay maybe I should have been more specific with this question. When I ask: "What is America?" I mean America as it is right now. Not necessarily what it was founded as by the Founding Fathers.
Sigh. This has been said since the beginning of the republic. The very arguments of the Federalists and anti-Federalists, the Hamiltonians and Jeffersonians.
And if you think money is an issue now, read up on American history from post Civil War to the Progressive Era. My god.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:Sigh. This has been said since the beginning of the republic. The very arguments of the Federalists and anti-Federalists, the Hamiltonians and Jeffersonians. Indeed. But it is the 21st century now. Why do we still have 18th century politics? This is the age of information. The world has become more and more transparent. The veil has been lifted so to speak. We no longer need rely on the Hearst's of the world to dictate our socioeconomic paradigm--we can see the world happen instantly on liveleak or a thread on reddit. So why are we still mired in empty rhetoric and obsolete politicking? Why does Rupert Murdoch and the Koch bros still influence our political world? I'd argue we are just a generation or two away from real progress--we must be or the world will pass us over. We must take the money out of politics. We must have the best people as leaders--not the absolute worst. We need philosopher-kings and not corporate shills. We need campaign reform. People are beginning to see this. Murdoch and the Koch brothers to influence your views? And with all this information around us do you see people acting any smarter? It's all about paying attention and people do that or not, no matter what generation they're living in. We need philosopher-kings and not corporate shills! Yeah! Good luck with that. Why run for office - you'll just be called a corporate shill by the people who don't agree with you. You take money out of politics you just make it easier for the incumbents. You must like the group we now have.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
You can't take the money out of politics without abridging the first amendment. Even the Koch brothers have first amendment rights, and that means they can buy air time and run political commercials if they want to.
You want the influence of money out of politics, take the influence over money away from politicians. Make government smaller, I'll keep repeating until I can speak no more.

Easy to say and hard to do if you are a serious politician who wants to get elected and stay in office.

Quote:When is the right thing ever easy?In our government? When it comes with a suitcase full of cash. The money has to go before real change can happen. Once that's gone then the will of the people can be followed, whatever that ends up being. Quote:In our government? When it comes with a suitcase full of cash. The money has to go before real change can happen. Once that's gone then the will of the people can be followed, whatever that ends up being. That's fine I agree money corrupts both sides, but until you reduce the influence of politicians especially at the federal level you'll never stop the inflow of money (legal and illegal) flowing into Washington. If the politicians did not hold so much power in picking winners and losers there would be no reason for the bribes, campaign contributions, and lobbyist to poor money into the candidates.
