Do you take him and enjoy the youngest most talented set of 4 receivers in the league? This also might include Blackmon...who knows. We could run 4 wide all day and beef up pass protection. Cooper/Blackmon/lee/rob/hurns


It's a good fit for bortles and denard too. They're able to pick up first downs if coverage is tight but shouldn't be a focal point of our offense.

I doubt Cooper goes first round if he was in last years draft , he's not a great talent.

Not calling you out specifically but it's debatable he's even the best WR in this draft let alone the best player.  I think there are better players that fill bigger needs there.

 

I agree with your logic though.  If there was a Megatron-like prospect and he was far and away the best player, I have no problem taking him there.

Yes, I wasn't really saying draft him particularly, I was saying if you're that high up in the draft, you need to draft an absolute stud, as long as you can play him.   That excludes only quarterback, because I am hoping we have our quarterback.   Drafting at the top of the draft is not for filling needs if it means you would pass over an elite, rare talent, just to get some guy who fills a need you can fill with other means. 

 

For example, I don't care how good your WR corps is, or how bad your OL is, you don't pass over Calvin Johnson to fill a need at OL.   Even if you already have Larry Fitzgerald and Dez Bryant, and your offensive line stinks, you don't pass over Calvin Johnson.  You use some other means to fix your offensive line.

Yeah that's how I feel too, if Cooper was BAP when we pick I would not have a problem with taking him. You can never have too many playmakers on offense.

 

That being said, I don't think he will be, there's even some debate on whether he's the best WR in the draft. I think if he drops into the teens, he would be good value there, just like where ODB Jr went last year.

The Jags already are going to have 4 young talented WR in Blackmon, Hurns, Lee and Robinson in 2015. If Shorts returns thats 5. Who's getting bumped for Amari? Amari isn't AJ Green, Calvin or even Mike Evans or K Benjamin.


The Jags taking Cooper would be the ultimate of incompetence.


I'm not saying that the Jags should take a QB above all others at that pick but taking a WR like Cooper would be just really really dumb.

Well if that's your argument I got news for you. Fisch in all likelihood will still be here next year so drafting another QB would still be ridiculous.

I agree if there's a CJ there you have to take him . I just don't think he's anywhere close to CJ and will likely be considered a bust if he's taken top 8. I even like White more than him.

Nope, you trade him for an extra 1st round pick. Its what Buffalo gave for Watkins, and Atlanta for Julio. Thats what I would do. This would almost seem to be a better scenario than drafting first because people seem more willing to trade up to get a WR right now than a QB

I was listening to Jimmy Smith being interviewed on 1010xl, and he said Amari Cooper has a very refined skill set, that he is very advanced in the wide receiver craft, and that Sammy Watkins is not refined in his skill set.

It's true.  Cooper is a better route runner than Watkins by far.

One thing you have to say about Cooper is that he came out this season as a marked man by every SEC Defensive Coordinator and despite all the attention paid to him by some of the brightest minds and best defensive talent in all of amateur sports, Cooper excelled.

Dave wants to keep his job fixing the offense and give Blake all the help he can get might be the best way he can do it.

I wouldn't be upset one bit if Dave selects Cooper. He's a great player and a very good prospect at WR. He gives Blake another option and he's a potential 100+ catch a year guy.
