This is it, and it really shouldn't even be a discussion.

Quote:4.69 is decent for a LB....
Yes some great LB's ran a 4.7, no argument. However it seems most upcoming good prospects at LB are doing 4.5-4.6 40's now routinely.Jaime collins, Von Miller,Jalani Jenkins, ect., the new norm is under 4.6 for linebackers. It's getting faster. While the 40 yard grade isn't everything, it's just one measurement,I doubt JT would come near 5 seconds at his present weight. He was listed at school at 225 when his time was taken. He looks much heavier and he did not grow taller. So that scouting report saying he lacks explosion is just as true now as then. He still has short arms, that fail to wrap up runners, and he still can jump as high as Luke Joekel. That was not a joke. He can jump barely higher than Luke. I am sorry to offend anyone who really likes JT but playing over the middle and being short, with short arms, he isn't getting in the way of many pass attempts. He will never bat down a pass, and if trailing a wide body tight end across the middle, how is he going to get his short little arms around to break up a pass without holding?  He is just too slow and short to block the sight lines and also not strong enough to stop bruising runners.

Now is this too much analysis for a backup? Maybe. But it's a roster spot, and this year linebacker has been a position of weakness.

The Jags can do better, I hope. Even with their backups. Poz maybe has two more years. We need speed and depth. The last 1st round linebacker we picked was Kevin Hardy. Maybe it's time.for another.

With the 4th pick in the 2015 draft the Jacksonville Jaguars select Linebacker REGGIE RAGLAND from the University of Alabama.

Quote:What is everyones opinion of JT Thomas?  He is versatile and has proven to be an asset to our LB core.  Should the Jags try and re-sign him before the end of the season.  Even if we sign a OLB in free agency (KJ Wright) he is a guy who could be an effective #4 LB.

Thomas has been better in the middle than Poz was.  For that reason alone, he should be resigned.  Also he plays two spots, MLB and Otto, well.  I think it's a no brainer.  Telvin being the weakside LB means we need a guy for Otto or MLB so Thomas can move back to Otto.

Gents...JT has been as asset to this team all year long.  He is trusted by the coaches and can play all 3 LB positions.  Hopefully the Jags can upgrade the OTTO position this offseason and re-sign JT to be the primary backup at either OLB position.  I think Poz is going to get another year with George backing him up.

JT is certainly upgradeable, but if the position isn't upgraded we will still be better off than we were with Poz going into the season this year.

He's good at interceptions even though he doesnt have the best hands (catching ability) he's been at the right spot to catch the balls several times.  The problem is he isnt as good at tackling or stopping the run.  He's made a few mistakes along with his sucess, but I think Gus had planned on benching him (since he brought in a guy but the guy was injured) only to see Thomas improve during that time.

Im not sure maybe best to see how he plays this last week of the season first....
