Jimbo Fisher gets a new contract
|
I thought there would already be a thread on this when I got to work this morning. Jimbo Fisher seems like a pretty good guy and is one heck of a coach. If he were to ever move to the NFL, I would love him on the Jags as an OC.

Well deserved. It is remarkable what he has done since taking over for Bowden.
Jimbo will have FSU competing at the highest level for a long, long time.
Quote:Well deserved. It is remarkable what he has done since taking over for Bowden. If he wins another NC or two he just may supplant Bowden very quickly.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. He's a great coach and recruiter. We have the number 2 draft class of the year so far, seems Jimbo just keeps reloading, a lot like his former head coach and mentor Nick Saban.

I got to be honest. I was not sold on Jimbo Fischer and have criticized his play calling (even this year in notre dame game), but I'm happy we have him locked up and can't really ask for much of a better start. Jimbo is also one hell of a recruiter and seems to be very involved with his players.
Quote:Well deserved. It is remarkable what he has done since taking over for Bowden.Really? I mean I haven't really watched FSU closely since the Ponder/Manuel days when I was in Tally, but I wasn't that impressed. I wouldn't be shocked if FSU has huge regression after Winston leaves this year (or possibly next, even tho I think thats unlikely). Jimbo never struck me as a great coaching genius, he was still the 'head coach' when Bowden was being run out of town for not doing good. I mean maybe this works out, but I think its the definition of 'buying high.' Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! From changing the nutrition program for the players to bringing in a sports psychologist to creating a unity council that is lead by the players as well as revamping the strength and conditioning program. Our players used to lack strength but have speed or vice versa. Now our players are strong and fast. This program was heading down the toilet fast, and he's brought it back to an elite level in four years. With the way he is recruiting too, FSU is here to stay as long as he is in charge. There won't be any rebuilding. We will just continue to reload. He's without a doubt a top five coach right now in the country.

Quote:So you haven't watched the team in years but have a such a strong opinion? I don't think his opinion is that far off. FSU weren't world beaters during the Manuel/Ponder area. It took a pretty darn good quarterback to put them over the top (as in most cases). It's a crap shoot to find that next qb in the NFL and college. He has to recruit the best qb to fit his system, and then hope he turns out. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:He has only been a "great" coach since Jameis arrived I doubt you actually believe that. He took over a fading program. They could have easily turned into an afterthought like Tennessee, Michigan and Penn State have. Instead they're national title contenders. Look at the record before he arrived compared the the record since he took over. They went 11-2 with an Orange Bowl win the year before Winston took over. Bowden hadn't been able to do that his last decade there.

Quote:He has only been a "great" coach since Jameis arrived You do know Manuel and Ponder were Bowden boys right?

Quote:You do know Manuel and Ponder were Bowden boys right? Didn't Jimbo have full reign over the offense at that time? |
