This is huge for Michigan. No better candidate for the job. The best thing is that the cupboard isn't bare, so a quick (2-3 years) turnaround isn't out of the question. The biggest issue is going to be the QB position, but JH is a QB guy and hopefully he can get that position solved.

Many NFL puppet writers (and apparently some posters here) swung and missed hard on this one.

The biggest issue is if he will be able to go recruit the top areas of the country. It won't be easy. Michigan has not been able to attract the level of athletes necessary to compete in today's college game. They are right there with Notre Dame, Penn State and Nebraska as schools whose best days are decades ago. Unless, he can go into California, Texas, Louisiana and Florida beat out USC, FSU, Texas, Oklahoma, Bama, LSU (well, the entire SEC) for those guys, they will be stuck where they have been for a while.

1. The fact that you listed California is pretty laughable. Harbaugh is a legend in that state for how he turned Stanford around and making the NFC Championship (San Francisco, CA) game his first 3 NFL seasons. His connections there are strong.

2. Michigan's problem hasn't been recruiting, it has been complete lack of player development. Brady Hoke brought in top 10 classes in 2012 (5th) and 2013 (7th), but some how you don't think Harbaugh will be able to?

Having connections is one thing. Being able to beat out USC and UCLA is another.

As a fan of Michigan, I would be happy to have him.

I just think this is a tougher job than it appears.

If Hoke was able to recruit on that level, you don't think Harbaugh can? Again, recruiting was never Michigan's problem. It was terrible player development.

Again

In 2012, Brady Hoke and Michigan had the #5 class in the country.

In 2013, Brady Hoke and Michigan had the #7 class in the country.

You don't think that Harbaugh can land top 10 classes at Michigan?...... :whistling:

In 2012, their top rated players were from Ohio, Missouri, Michigan and Iowa. Which helps prove my point.

Okay? That point is that Michigan will still be able to bring in very good players and very good classes. If Hoke could do it, Harbaugh can do it.

From there, Harbaugh will run circles around the player development and in-game coaching Hoke provided. Because of that, it's stupid to say that Michigan will "stay stuck where they have been."

Hoke wasn't bringing in good players. You seem blinded by Rivals rankings.

He was. He just couldn't develop them. Do you realize that there is a difference between recruiting and player development?

Regardless, even if Harbaugh recruited on Hoke's level (whatever level that may be), Michigan will be better due to:

A. Harbaugh is a better coach than Hoke

B. Harbaugh will be better at player development than Hoke

You're trolling at this point. You made the claim that Michigan will be stuck in the same place with Harbaugh as they were with Hoke if recruiting stays the same. You are implying that Harbaugh won't do anything else better than Hoke, which is either plain stupid or trolling. I'll assume you aren't stupid.

this is not set in stone

the Jets and the Bears are going to offer Harbaugh full autonomy and a huge contract.

You need to stop listening to the ESPN/NFL talking heads. They are trying to cover their butts because just a few days ago there was no chance that Harbaugh would leave the NFL for Michigan. Now, they are scrambling to spin this into other narratives. Another one you will hear is that he will only be staying for a couple years. Go listen to people closer to the situation and/or people not being paid to push the NFL agenda.

Edit: And I know it isn't set in stone. Harbaugh has to fly in (today) to sign the contract and set it in stone. The announcement is set to be made at halftime of the Michigan basketball game tomorrow.

Also, it's rumored the Florida's defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin would be Harbaugh's pick for DC (he was the D-Line coach when Harbaugh was at Stanford). Durkin was the 2012 National Recruiter of the Year. Combine that with Harbaugh successful in both NCAA and the NFL and being one of the most known coaches in the country and you can see why Michigan fans won't worry about recruiting.

Michigan's 2015 class is down to just 6 players from 16 at one point. If/when Harbaugh is named coached, I expect some recruitment flips in favor of Michigan. There are some high profiled 4* and 5* kids that have said they're interest in Michigan rises exponentially if Harbaugh is the guy in charge. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

You are definitely excited about this hire. I would caution you are getting too excited. You don't want to embarrass yourself again.

Devin Gardner to Devin Funchess might be the best QB to WR combo in the country.

I've never claimed to be right about everything and I've conceded being mindblowningly wrong about Gardner. That situation has nothing to do with the Harbaugh hire being an A+++ hire. Do you think there was any better coaching option for Michigan? Try to answer that without trolling.

Quote:Probably Harbaugh's people leaking this to the media to get him more money in the NFL.

Nope. Probably the contract that Harbaugh ends up signing and passing up NFL jobs for.
