Alot of these things are estimate type stats but it does show the problem with pulling numbers.  What I see across the board is we have had about 8 years of average NFL caliber receivers.  The years where we lowered the drops were a direct result of having the top NFL rushers or near the top rushing.  This team is paying a serious price for bad drafting and poor decision making.

Good stuff!  We haven't had solid receivers since Smiff & McCardell.

Focus on each WR's specialty, what they do best, and run plays to exploit it.

 

I know it sounds so simple, yet the Jags coaches haven't really been able to do it.

Sounds good but the oline has to protect the QB long enough for the receivers to get down field.  This line can't do that

I agree with that; however, they NEVER go deep, so how can the defense ever back off?  I swear if they did it atleast 3-4 times a game, they wouldn't blitz EVERY play.  Everytime they lined up on offense I would say, here they all come.

The problem with that is at some point, defenses will key in. Reggie Williams had his best year, even set franchise records because Koetter used him the most on the two things he does best (slants/post). The following year, defenses took that away from him and he struggled.

 

Its one thing to use these guys to their strengths, but they still gotta be able to run the full route tree.

Blame Chad Henne. The offense is very young. These guys were, walking into defeat each game they played.

That's not fair,, IMO.


I've seen countless posters agree that even a great QB (Brady, Manning) would have no shot at competing with this horrible O-line, less than mediocre running game, and rookie receivers that didn't even know half their play books or how to adjust properly.


Now, throw Chad Henne in the lineup (we all know he's worse than average). As bad as Henne is, what on earth was he supposed to do with:

No Protection

No Running Game

Rookie WRs not knowing what they're supposed to be doing

???


Plus,, Bortles got to play with these rookies after they had acquired some game experience (all the way up to 14-15 games).

Henne had to play with this whole rookie unit in their first couple games.

C'Mon Man!

If great QBs couldn't succeed with this crap,, why would anyone expect Chad Freaking Henne to be able to do it?

No doubt. And this Oline. Manning thrives on not getting hit. When Manning (jughead), gets pressured, he looks almost Gabbert like.

 

IMO, I know we are talking draft picks but Cleo Lemon was also WAAAAYYYYYY worse that Gabbert.

jagherd has a point though in regards to Henne. We all knew he wasn't the answer, but if anyone was doomed to fail from jump it was that guy.

Of course, he's a rookie, but he finished with a rating of 69.5, last in the NFL.  He had only 11 TDs against 17 INTs, worst ratio in the NFL.  He took 55 sacks, most in the NFL.  Only Derek Carr's yards per attempt was worse. 

 

In Byron Leftwich's rookie year, he finished with rating of 73.0, good for 21st out of 32 qualifiers in the NFL.  He had 14 TDs against 16 INTs.  He took only 19 sacks, one of the fewest in the NFL.  His yards per attempt was18th in the NFL.

 

By nearly every comparative measure, Byron Leftwich's rookie season was far better than Blake Bortles'.

 

In Blaine Gabbert's rookie year, he finished with a rating of 77.4, 25th out of 32 qualifiers.  He had 9 TDs against 6 INTs,  He did take 22 sacks in limited snaps, one of the worst percentages in the NFL.  His yards per attempt were worst in the NFL.  Of course, the last two statistics were the best measure of his deficiencies.

 

But ask yourself, look at their stats, and is Bortles more like Gabbert or Leftwich, and how did Leftwich turn out for you?

 

Leftwich also had a possible HOF receiver, a likely HOF running back, and a veteran offensive line.  This is why you have to be able to look at stats as one facet of the evaluation, not the whole story.
