Rough night for Big12

#1

Clemson blows out Oklahoma.  And then Arkansas blows out Texas.

I think I'm more surprised by the Clemson/OU score.  Arkansas, while 6-6, was obviously a much better team than that.  They had without question the hardest conference schedule of anyone in the country and 5 of those 6 losses were by a touchdown or less.  Their only bad loss was the first game of the year against Auburn.

Clemson was going with Cole Stoudt who had his ups and downs and was benched for Watson during the year.  Regardless they had put up 40 points by the end of the 3rd quarter.  Game was over long before that.  Sometimes these bowl games some teams just dont show up and I suppose that was OU this time.

Wonder if this is a harbinger for Baylor or TCU or just an indictment of Texas and OU.

I had many of the same thoughts and questions you posted yesterday/last night. To answer the last, imo, I think it speaks more about the conference then it does just Texas/OU. The Big 12 could end up looking real bad at the end of this bowl season. They need to add teams, and get a conference title game going.

Who can they add though? Memphis? BYU?

Pickings are slim, but they need to add the best that they can and get a title game. That title game alone improves their chances at earning a playoff spot. Added teams, in theory and over time, will increase competitiveness of the conference overall.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to add Boise State yet.

I agree. I guess Houston could be an option too.

Whoever was talking arguing about Oklahoma with me and Bob stoops got a dose of what I was talking about last night.

Would a team like UCF be a contender to go there?

Boise State literally has nothing to offer the Big 12. Awful TV market and not enough revenue.

Nah. While adding a market in Florida would be ideal, the travel logistics are a deal-killer.

More evidence the committee got it right leaving Baylor and TCU out of the playoff.

just a little side note.... the SEC seems to be faring pretty well for those saying that it isnt hands down the best conference... :whistling:

Travel wouldn't be a prohibitive factor whatsoever.

In a somewhat down/sub par year by SEC standards at that.
