6 Pro Bowlers (so far): Ed Reid, Kyle Long (G) (as a reserve, eh..), Cordarrelle Patterson (as a returner, has had a poor second season), Travis Fredrick ©, Bell and Lacy.  Lacy was the latest pick that has earned a pro bowl bid and qualifies as a stud.  Lacy was picked 61st in the draft.

 

2013 was a garbage draft year.  The exceptions would be at interior defensive and offensive linemen. RB is looking up too.  All three positions noted are typical positions where you can find talent late in drafts and not key skill positions like QB DE CB

Yeah this is why it's so hard for me to be down on Joeckel as a draft pick, at least so far. I'd rather have Ansah right now, but it's not like there were a lot of options at #2. The top 10 in that draft was as bad as it gets.

Really thought that he was a perfect fit for this defense.

I must admit that I had my eyes on Eddie Lacy in round 2 after his performance in the BCS win.   He'd probably look more like Gerhert here due to our gutting of the offense though.

He was getting better the more he played at BYU, so it wasn't really *that* big a gamble.

This is a classic example why it can be beneficial to have your coaching staff being one of the coaching staffs at the Senior Bowl under the circumstance of a bad season.   There's no question that the Lions wouldn't have drafted Ziggy Ansah with pick # 5 under typical conditions.  But with Lions GM Martin Mayhew,  then HC Jim Schwartz,  and the rest of the team brass and coaching staff being able to spend more time with Ziggy Ansah,  it made the difference in the decision by Mayhew to draft Ansah.   Having the opportunity to work with and get to know G Larry Warford was a significant factor in the Lions drafting him in Round 3.    Regarding Ansah,  one of the things the Lions learned about him in Mobile is he's a very instinctive player despite so little football experience.  

 

 W/o saying,  Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley have another great opportunity next week in Mobile.  I'm still amazed that Lovie Smith elected not to have the Bucs coach one of the Senior Bowl squads.
