Cardale Jones

Quote:That fumble helps show the reality that this is still a kid making his third start. Talking about his draft prospect is beyond premature. He may not even be their starting QB next year.

That's why he needs to go pro.   Why sit in the bench at OSU when you can sit on the bench in the pros and learn NFL quarterbacking?    The guy obviously has immense physical talent to go with coolness under pressure.

Quote:Which is a huge reason he may enter. He has all the tools and then some. Pointing out a fumble as to why he may or may not be ready is crazy. Did you see the plays he made, the tools he has? Not many have that. The kid is thrust into the starting role in the teams conference championship game. Then he plays Alabama in the national semi, and then in the national title game. Kid is poised, has a rocket arm, size, can run.

This^   He needs to go pro right now, sit on someone's bench for a year, and develop.

You have to go by the eyeball test.   Watch him play and what do you see?   Big, tall, athletic, great arm, poised.   Prototypical pro QB.

Obviously, when he was sitting on the bench as the 3rd stringer, he was working on his game.   That's a selling point, too.   Professionalism.   No pouting, just working.

You can't ignore the NFL caliber skill-set, which very very few college QBs have.

Say Ohio convinces Miller to make the switch to WR (or even transfers). Do you really think that Jones or Barrett want to be back up? Both got a Big time taste of college football. Neither will want to sit.

Urban Meyer said Braxton Miller will return to Ohio State as a quarterback.

I never heard of a quarterback who wanted to be the backup. There will probably be a competition for the job in April.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a switch.  Just because Urban said it, doesn't make it true.

Unless he has Tim Tebow complex, Braxton Miller knows he is not an NFL QB. Why not try to switch to a different position where he can properly develop his skill set?

I like Jones. He has the size and armstrength, and he looks more natural as a QB than his other two counterparts. There is something there to work with if GMs wants a developmental project. But way too early to project anything about him as a NFL prospect.

"I love Ohio State and Buckeye nation, and my goal is to come back from this injury stronger and better than ever. I am on course to graduate in December and I want to attend graduate school, and then return to lead the Buckeyes next season," Miller announced in a release from the school.

There you have it. Miller himself said he is not done with school. He probably also knows a position switch would help him in the NFL (probably running back; I don't see him as a wide receiver). He might as well be a running back at Ohio State instead of be like Denard Robinson and have no job title his rookie year. The graduate school part tells me Miller has no reason to change his mind about staying in Columbus.

Quote:Not a chance. Urban actually changed his system up for Jones so he wasn't running what Miller and Barrett were before they got hurt. Don't get it twisted though, Elliott is what's been making that offense go. Watching Jones these last three weeks, he's got the type of tools you want, but he's late on a good bit of his throws and those end up being picks at the next level.

And really, the Big Ben comparisons are really dumb at this point. Ben *was* the offense at Miami and Jones hasn't shown that yet.
I strictly compared only his physical tools to Ben, not his overall ability.

If it makes you feel better, I'll compare his tools to Jamarcus Russell.

I'm curious where he would go. Based on pure talent he shouldn't much farther down than 2nd round I think.

I think that's entirely too high for a guy who's played 3 games. How to you assign a scouting grade to someone with limited tape? He'd be lucky to be a mid to late round flier because that's exactly what he is.

Limited tape, but I would argue his three game tape is better than any three consecutive games from the consensus QB3 in the draft (Hundley).

I mean, with how ridiculous deep last years draft was, Logan Thomas went in the 4th. Which was mostly because of his tools, sure as heck wasn't the tape. I think the Rams would be a great fit. Great team outside the QB. Try to get Bradford through a whole season and let Jones take over the next year.

Todd McShay just wrote an article on Jones and where he's projected to be drafted. Anyone with ESPN insider would like to share?

But NFL scouts will want to see if he has the intangibles. Are only three starts enough for them to figure that out?

I wonder what they will think of his performances during garbage time in Ohio State's blowouts.

Let's see him win the starting job next season and play lights-out football for twelve games instead of one, shall we?

Correction: he started three games. Yes, it is still limited tape, but NFL scouts do have the fourth quarter against crappy teams including Maryland, Rutgers, and MIchigan. So they have more tape than most people think.

Obviously the limited amount of game tape will hurt Cardale Jones, but teams can get enough to see what he can do as a quarterback and the kind of player he is.
