Lol, Seattle better watch out, there's sure to be some hidden cameras somewhere.
If this is true it's further proof the NFL is fixed. Teams that follow the rules are not able to compete against those that bend or completely disregard the rules.
They need to do what cycling and other sports to when they catch a team doing this; vacate the wins! Otherwise it doesn't prevent a coach or team from consistently doing this. I mean give up a Draft Pick to win a conference championship and play in a Super Bowl; I'm sure that many a GM and coaches would gladly make that trade.
So, with no knowledge at all of this subject, does the home team provide/store the balls? Shouldn't the NFL provide the balls so no tampering is involved? Does each team use their own balls during the game?

Shouldn't the NFL provide the balls so no tampering is involved? Does each team use their own balls during the game? From the rule book: Quote:According to the NFL’s 2014 rule book, game balls are to be inflated with between 12.5 and 13.5 pounds of air. Per NFL rules, home and road teams must provide 12 game balls apiece to be tested and approved by the league 135 minutes before game time. The home team also has to have 12 reserve game balls on hand to be tested, with the road team also having that option in outdoor games. Looking at the rules I don't see how they could have cheated since the balls have to be tested 135 minutes prior to game time and with both squads provide game balls it would seem to be that much harder. Unless they slipped in a 13th (out of their 12) or 25th (out of the 24 total from both teams) deflated ball.

Back on topic, a less inflated football would be easier to grip, but harder to throw IMO. Not saying this gives the Pats a pass, but I think it's not so significant and definitely does not change the outcome, however, rules are rules and a draft pick would be getting it easy for the Pats. I really respect the Pats but it seems like things just follow them around.

Since I read that it makes the balls easier to throw and catch, wouldn't it benefit both teams to have deflated balls?

I'm sure it really helped Blount to have a deflated ball as he ran over every Colt in the stadium all night long.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they smuggled an illegal ball or two in and switched them out while toweling them off or something. Or let some air out while "toweling" them
This is possibly the dumbest thing they've ever been accused of. I guess the colts need an excuse to why they sucked so bad.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Why am I not surprised.......as much official love as brady and the pats get, it wouldn't surprise me if they were in on it. lol

Especially when the balls are weighed and certified before the game, then locked up and kept under strict control for the duration of the game. Could it happen? Sure. But it's just as likely that there was a ball with a faulty valve as it is that cheating was involved. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What you said plus the fact that both teams use the same balls too.

In the end I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats cheated, seems to be what Belichick excels at. Normally I would say if this ends up being true the Pats should be stripped of their win but lets face it, it was not needed to deflate the balls for the Pats to win that game.
The first incident of cheating they should have had their salary cap cut, pay fines equivalent to the cap, and have that money distributed for other team's salary caps for two years.
If they cheat to win, make sure they lose twice as long. This one isn't as serious, but with their history throw the book at them if they're guilty.
It's ridiculous, and yet it's something the pats would do...
Also, who's to say the deflated balls were only used when the pats were on offense? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
If only messing with some footballs could make you a better team. The colts looked awful and I don't think anything was going to help them out. That was a major collapse on the big stage for them. Andrew Luck has really pasted over the warts on that team. And boy oh boy the front office hasn't helped him out long term with offensive talent.
Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011 Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.
LOL!!! Typical Indianapolis whining. Notice who "broke" this story. Bob Kravitz, former colts homer for the Indianapolis Star, now colts homer for WTHR. Every time the colts lose, colts fans come up with some grand conspiracy theory. "waaah they cheated". LOL!
I think they better test the Colts defense from last night. To me,, they looked seriously deflated!
Lol,, I know, I know ![]() |
