I'm all for letting this team (or this board) know when they do something dumb. I'm not sold on Bradley because... well... he's only won 7 games. But I've been able to watch him for 32 games. Olson hasn't done anything but take a pen and sign a contract.... Bashing him now doesn't make sense.

 

Disagree with the hire? Sure! Saying the world is going to end because of it? Probably not

If any of the teams Olson coached actually had a lick of talent and the offense sucked I might be concerned unfortunately none of them did outside of 2006 Rams and the 2010 Bucs had anybody noteworthy on the offensive side. I think there is a tendency to get caught up in coaching names. Who was Belichek before Brady and the Patriots?

I will be pleasantly surprised if Greg Olson works out well here; however, my current impression is that the hire was based more on availability than on suitability. I can see where he has done some good work with developing quarterbacks, but his track record as an OC is just awful.

 

All things being equal (which they rarely are...) I almost think it would have been wiser to keep Fisch and hire Olson as a quarterback coach if we really wanted him; but that boat has sailed, so no point pondering it now.

Olsons track record doesn't look that formidable. In fact it's just not good. So fans not liking the hire is understandable. This team needs a blood transfusion, not a flu shot.

But, it's obvious it is what it is. This is a huge year for the team. Flounder again with uninspired football and don't win considerably more games, then I'm sure the Gus Bus will be sold at auction


We have to put up with the Colts..again...for the division. The team has to improve more than marginally.


On a rebuild, losing more games in the second year isn't a good sign.


Let's not forget the Marrone hiring. He could be a difference maker...unless he and Gus clash.


For the opimists .... Do you think the team wins 8 games next year?

Track record for an OC is almost meaningless, because it can pretty much be entirely summed up by "Who was his QB"?       Josh McDaniels was an up and coming offensive genius when he coached Tom Brady.  Then went to Denver and became an offensive dullard when he had to coach Kyle Orton and Tebow.   Then magically rediscovered his genius status   when he went back to New England and coached Brady again.   Just like Charlies Weis went from offensive genius to washed up has been just about the time he stopped coaching Tom Brady.    Funny how that works.     

 

A lot of teams have in essence co-coordinator duties between a "running game coordinator" and "passing game coordinator" in weekly gameplanning and preperation, and the passing game coordinator usually handles playcalling duties because it's the most complexity and involvement.    Sounds like the Jags will have a similar split in duties between Marrone and Olson.

I watched a few raiders games and the one thing i can say is He is an improvement on fisch. he did not call a run up the middle when it was 3 down and 20. He took shots and threw the ball to make first downs. He just didnt have the weapons to make it happen. I think if he can get BB5 going and the recievers get better in their second year we could have a very explosive offense.

The only year he had a decent QB, he had a top 10 offense. I mean seriously, the man has had very little talent to work with over the years.

yeah it isnt the most impressive hire or resume, but its what weve got. trestman turned down the job, gase did too..... wasnt much else out there. the jaguars have a ways to go.
