Fanspeak Mock Draft

Quote:What makes you think that draft couldnt happen?

I think Jesse James at worst is a 5th Round choice due to his size/ability. I also believe Erving/Williams will be gone before we select in the 4th.

Decided to go in a different direction this time.

3: R1P3

DE Shane Ray Missouri - I usually pick Leonard Williams, but retried the draft until he was gone. In this instance neither top 2 team took a QB so I would have been looking to trade back if possible; probably taken Shaq Thompson, OLB. Took Ray over Cooper because I like what we have at WR and Ray I believe will turn out to be a JPP type of freak athlete. It will work itself out more over the next few months.

36: R2P4

C/OT Cameron Erving Florida State - Haven't been going OL here, but really there is great value to be had at 36. I think Erving is a huge upgrade at C or at RT. He was a decent LT, but really is more of a mauler and shined once they moved him to C. I think he would also shine at RT with a TE outside of him enabling straight ahead blocking.

67: R3P3

RB Todd Gurley Georgia - If their draft board is going to let me get a potential All-Pro offensive playmaker in the third round, I have to snap him up regardless of needs.

100: R4P4

WR Justin Hardy East Carolina - We've gotten nothing substantial in the punt return game since the kinda-fake-fair-catch play years ago. Averaged 11.2 yards a return and is also a polished slot receiver. Only question is his top end speed.

131: R5P3

CB/S Eric Rowe Utah - Like others on here I see him as a FS. Hasn't put up great INT numbers, but has dropped quite a few potential INTs. Personally I like a guy who can get his hands on the ball and will look for an elite player at the position in the future. Also tough enough and a good enough tackler that he could be a 4-way special teams guy if he can't win the starting safety spot.

164: R6P4

TE Tyler Kroft Rutgers - Undersized TE at 240 he's exactly what the offense has been lacking at the position, an athlete that can catch the ball. Good enough blocker that we can line him up on the line on occasion and punish teams that bring in extra DBs treating him as a 3rd WR.

195: R7P3

OT Austin Shepherd - Scouting reports have said "surprisingly light feet" for a guy his size, but will need some work before being ready to handle the speed rushers in the NFL. Drafted for depth at OT which is desperately needed.

Him being available at 36 is a joke.

Does FSU use a zone blocking scheme or is it more power blocking?

Lol, I've seen mocks that have him at 4, but I think thats a joke as well.

Here's my latest.  I took Funchess in the second and O'leary was still there in the 4th.  I know it would never happen, but I couldn't pass that up.

I'm pretty sure from what I remember seeing that it was a zone technique.

I'm starting to get on the Shane Ray wagon a bit. I still want Williams simply for his power and versatility, but I'd be okay with Ray as well.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Most likely going to be Williams, Ray or Gregory. I'm ok with any of them but I agree i want Williams the most.

Best thing here is if Mariota falls to 3, we make a trade with the Jets to go to 6 and still end up with Ray or Gregory.

I've just had a go at this with trades. And I learnt two things....

If you trade past ten, you can give up on getting one of the top pass rushers. And it's worth trading back to get extra picks in round two and three, because that's where the real value is.

So this is what I ended up with after trading down to 11 to get extra picks in rounds 2,3 and 4 and then again with the Eagles, to get a third pick in round two.

20 - R1P20

TE MAXX WILLIAMS

MINNESOTA

A pass-catching tight end, to give Bortles a real outlet (the alternatives at this point weren't great)

36 - R2P4

DE NATE ORCHARD

UTAH

Pass rusher who has performed well at the Senior Bowl

45 - R2P13

OT JAKE FISHER

OREGON

Mobile right tackle who is used to zone blocking

52 - R2P20

ILB ERIC KENDRICKS

UCLA

Best Middle linebacker available

67 - R3P3

S CHRIS HACKETT

TCU

Hard hitting free safety who makes his fair share of interceptions too

76 - R3P12

OLB PAUL DAWSON

TCU

Personal issues aside, he sounds like a real danger at LB

100 - R4P4

CB SENQUEZ GOLSON

OLE MISS

a bit short, but he can break up a passing game

107 - R4P11

RB JAVORIUS ALLEN

USC

Big juggernaut of a RB as backup to Toby

131 - R5P3

OLB JAKE RYAN

MICHIGAN

Depth at LB

164 - R6P4

WR PHILLIP DORSETT

MIAMI

Sounds a bit like Ace Sanders... Let's have another go at that one...

195 - R7P3

FB JALSTON FOWLER

ALABAMA

Another one to impress at the senior bowl and could be useful blocker
