Deflate Gate - the report is in

Quote:How are those fumbles counted, fumbles lost only or also fumbles recovered? The Pats recovered at least two of their own in the AFC game.
He's done it on both sets of data. Either way, the Patriots* are way less prone to fumble. I believe he does mention that he believes total fumbles are the better indicator.

The only fault I can see that I don't agree with is his analysis is it includes fumbles from punts and kickoffs (these use a kicking ball controlled by the refs). However, even if these are excluded it still appears the Patriots** fumble much less than other teams.

Quote:You'd think they would notice a bunch of warm balls in his hands....
LOL...  you would think, but nobody really knows if this is how the Patriots* are doing it or not. It's all speculation.

This blog entry addresses that and other defenses people bring up:

http://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/blo...ther-teams

"Certainly Bill Belichick places emphasis on ball possession, as does every NFL head coach.  And more goes into decisions on who to keep, play and start than just fumbles.  Anecdotally it does seem like Belichick pulls players quickly who fumble often, but the fact is, if you look at the data, he treats other players who have similar (or worse) fumble rates differently.  Ultimately, its likely about the total package the player provides for Belichick rather than simply his fumble-aversion statistic alone.  This far less technical case study certainly appears to show that there is no set “limit” to the tolerance Bill Belichick has for fumbles from his players.  So I think we can dismiss the defense that “Bill Belichick yanks players who fumble often, and then cuts them.”  While he may do that to certain players, clearly it is not a consistent position he has taken historically across-the-board with all players, many of which are mentioned above."

Agreed. I actually believe the Patriots.  They seem genuine, and they just want the distraction to go away because it's the biggest game of their lives. It really is unfortunate if they are found innocent.  If they lose and they are cleared of all charges, will this be a reason they lost?

No.  Just like the balls had nothing to do with them destroying the Colts.  What is sad is they do this stupid stuff even when they have the better team.

I think 90 seconds is plenty of time to deflate 11 balls.  How long does it take for each one?  Insert the valve and count to 3, pull the valve out and go to the next one.

Are you asking us or telling us it takes 3 seconds?

Either way, you have about 8 seconds per ball if all you are doing is deflating the balls.  But you also have to put the bag down, open the bag, pull each ball out, locate the hole, insert the valve, pull the valve out, put the ball backs in the bag, close the bag, pick up the bag.

Maybe it could be done.  But it's just as likely he was in there taking a leak.

Or if you've been reading the bag that carries the balls have a big zipper flap in the front of it. It was stated that the balls didn't need to be removed from the bag just moved around.

What is your theory on 11 of the 12 balls missing 2 lbs of psi?

PFT just had an article saying how quick and easy it is to deflate 12 football in under 90 seconds

You mean how easy to deflate 12 footballs. Some guy from the NY Daily News did it in something like 77 seconds.

He said next time he'll also go to the bathroom.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
