Kyle Orton

#1

Considering the newly added coaches who were with the Bills last year, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some interest by Jaguars brass in acquiring Kyle Orton as a free agent. I can see him adding a veteran presence as a backup qb capable of beating out Henne while having some insight on what the new OL coach and QB coach are looking for. There are several interesting backup-caliber qbs hitting free agency including Jake Locker, but Orton might be an ideal fit for the niche that exists here.

Orton retired.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Just cut Henne and roll the dice with a UDFA

I could see them maybe going after Jason Campbell or Colt McCoy -  but I imagine they will probably ride with Henne as the back-up.

(The other decent FA QBs are likely going to go to teams where they are promised a chance at winning the starting job.)

Anything is possible, but I think he's done. He made a lot of money over his career and now wants to be with his family.

I spoke to Chad after their season ended and the day they cleaned out their lockers...I asked if he was coming back and he said that he was.....  So I assume on the exit interview he was told that they wanted him back.  I guess a lot can change between now and the end of trng. camp.

Orton's retiring; he's done.  I am sure they will have Henne hold the clipboard this year.  However, I would like to see someone else.

I'd rather cut Henne and sign Jake Locker as a back up

Why? If Blake ever went down and Locker had to come in, Locker would get hurt on the following play. Dude is made of glass.

I would cut Henne and sign Willie Beamen.

Anyone but Henne.

Why would those be the only 2 options?

In the end, I think they're content with Henne as the backup, and unless there's a clear upgrade to be had that would come with a reasonable contract, and realistic expectations about his role they'd consider it.  Since Campbell and McCoy are still in the mode of wanting to at least compete for a starting job somewhere, I don't see either coming here.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Henne will be here one more year. Deal with it.

Possibly McCoy is still in that mindset.  I have to disagree on Campbell.  He's 33 years old and has been on 4 different teams over the past 5 years. Not hard to imagine him being ready to settle into back-up mode.

Josh Freeman has experience with Greg Olson and would most likely be better than Henne. I would prefer him over Orton, even if Orton was talked out of retirement.
