What happened with Alualu?

#21

Yes I am aware of teams carrying more that 2 DTs.

If you really want to take it literal, yes you do have to factor in EVERY SINGLE DT in the league and factor in that percentage. (Alualu still wouldn't be in the upper half).

A DT/DE that doesn't start on 3-13 team, DOES classify him as a below average player at his position.

Wrong

Dude is just not good, even for depth.

Not necessarily. Bad teams are capable of being good at certain positions. Anyways, he's average at best. Keep him at an okay price and I won't lose any sleep over it.

I guess I will say it.  Who cares?  There are plenty of better options in free agency.

But remember. He accounts for one or two stuffs every other tenth game. Or something like that.

Quote:You guys are ridiculous. There is 32 teams in the league. Let's say they all played a 4-3 defense (giving Alualu a break here). That makes 64 starting DTs in the league. Let's cut that in half. That makes 32. If there is 32 DTs better than him in the league that makes him BELOW AVERAGE.

That would make him a below average starter.   But he's not a starter.

He does not play much, just a little bit every game. Mostly we see Clemons, Branch, and Davis at the ends.

If he's average in the league that makes him one of the better guys on our team.

Dudes a backup D-lineman, which every team must have on their roster. Was he picked too high? Sure. That's certainly not his fault. He played pretty well last season and until we have 8 pro-bowl lineman to rotate in like everyone seems to think all other teans have, he'll probably stay here.

At times this board makes me lose all faith in humanity.

He plays the other end, behind Red Bryant.  And he does play a lot.

Bryant started at the LDE position this year, and was in that spot's rotation.  I thought he played decently for a backup there.  Could he be upgraded?  ....of course.  In his current contract, the last year was 'voidable' by the Jags.  By voiding the last year,  the Jags will have a $1.5m dead money hit, but will save just over $2.4m on the cap.  His cap hit this year, if the Jags do/did not void the last year, would be about $4.0m in total.

At first I was thinking teams have the option to pick up the fifth year on all first round picks, but Tyson was drafted in 2010. It is possible his contract may have simply ran out.

No, being below average makes you below average.

I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

A lot of people here are really butt hurt over where this guy was drafted they go out their way to smoke him. But yet they like Gus Bradley's "below average" tenure. Plenty people suck on this team doesn't get the heat this guy gets.

In terms of alualu, they're probably letting him test the waters. If he can get more money elsewhere, let him.

If not, I think at some point they can work out a new contract.

Alualu is a bad player on a terrible team. http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/...tscenterFB

That doesn't really bode well for him returning or for Caldwell if he really thinks he's worth keeping. Is Alualu this offseason's equivalent to what Henne was last offseason when Caldwell was mysteriously desperate to keep him from entering free agency and ended up badly overpaying for the services of one of the league's worst players?

He will probably be one of those guys that blossoms on some other team.  Sad

No. Unless you mean he is a bottom of the roster guy that comes in to keep their good players fresh every now and then.

Guys don't "blossom" six years into their career. If he had any ability to be anything more than part of the pack on a terrible team we'd have already seen it.
