A simple disable of the location feature on your cell phone or tv would eliminate any threat of your privacy being invaded.

I have a Visio smart TV, and find the apps to not be worth the trouble. Slow loading, frequent re-buffering and sometimes Netflix won't even load. This, with an ethernet connection. My first generation Roku functions better.

 

Yeah the one in my garage is a Vizio, made me look for something not a Vizio lol.  The television itself isn't terrible, the picture is ok and the price was good, but the apps didn't run so well naively on the tv, the tv also seemed to lag on remote inputs.  Though I personally didn't have a problem with netflix.

I have a Samsung Smart TV that I got for Christmas.  I can't find where you turn on/off the voice recognition.  I've looked all through the menu and can't find it.

 

I also try to use the voice recognition controls to see if it was working, and nothing happened.  So either my tv doesn't have it, or its turned off.

 

It's frustrating to at least know its turned off though.

 

Is there a camera?  Anyone know where on the tv that is?  I couldn't find it either.

 

I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but man did I feel dumb the other night.

This reminds me of the concerns gamers had back when Xbox One was released. It's one reason my wife and i chose never to buy an XBOX One (even though they got rid of the Kinect requirement). Thankfully my kids are fine with their 3DS's and playing PS3 and 360 for now. The 3DS thankfully has good child safety protections on it.


Maybe we should have some sort of regulation about this? :teehee:

My xbox one watches me play Destiny. I can't imagine it being that exciting.

I have a big dumb TV, and I use a cable (but there's also devices like Google Chrome) to hook my PC or IPAD to the TV and the stereo.   I can stream anything.   Why do people want to pay all that extra money to embed that capability into your TV?????????????

I do think it's interesting how the TV MFR's have got us all calling them smart TV's. Used to be called internet connected TV's since that's all they do. There is nothing "smart" in the conventional sense about them.

They're smart in the sense that they are able to adapt to a user's needs thanks to internet connectivity.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke. 

I don't like it, and it makes me wonder why they would make these features.  I can see how they say we should make a mic for the lazy people whom don't want to push a button on their remotes, but having access to my TV and the microphone without my knowledge is scary, and infringes on our rights.  Before I buy my next TV, I'll make sure it doesn't have those features and get a ROKU.
