Tom Benson, Owner, New Orleans
|
A Louisiana judge has ordered that Tom Benson must undergo a set of exams to determine his competency in handling his own affairs.
To me, this is sad sad news. I can still remember seeing him dancing with the Black and Gold umbrella shortly after New Orleans won their Super Bowl. Here's to hoping this man and his family find peace. <p style="margin-left:40px;">"...Civil District Judge Kern Reese issued the ruling Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by Benson's daughter Renee and her children, Rita and Ryan LeBlanc. They want the 87-year-old Benson declared incapable of handling his affairs. <p style="margin-left:40px;"> <p style="margin-left:40px;">They filed suit in January after they were removed from Benson's succession plan for his teams ..."
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Either he married a gold digger who is influencing his decisions, including who will succeed him as owner when he passes, or he cut his daughter and grand kids out of the succession plan because they're gold diggers. He's an old guy, so it could swing either way. It'll be interesting to see how the judge rules on this once the examination has been completed.
I know many 80+ year olds who are sharp as a tack mentally. I also know a few who have definitely lost their capability of handling complex business affairs. Most recognize when they can't do it any longer. One guy I know practiced law up until he died at 91, and he never lost it mentally. His body was failing him for the last 10 years of his life, but he always had a brilliant mind. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I agree it really could go either way and I hope it works out for him.

You may very well be right, but it isn't like it's definitely one way or the other. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Sad story...he was always a fun owner. We lived in New Orleans for a few years and he always seemed to be fan friendly.
