Tashaun Gipson

I'm not 100% sure how the RFA thing works, so if I say something wrong let me know. Basically, wouldn't Gipson be similar to the Mack situation? Couldn't we basically offer him a contract and then see if the Browns decide to match it? I mean with McCourty probable to be tagged, and the draft kind of being weak at FS, wouldn't it make sense to at least offer Gipson? I mean he was a critical component of the Browns defense, he's young and he fits a position of need. He's shown that he can excel at the safety position despite initial doubt at draft time. I know he is coming off injury, but he is good, young and would be a humongous upgrade.

RFA is a bit different and could potentially cost draft picks depending on the tender level the Browns place on Gipson.

Cleveland gave Mack the transition tag, which allowed for them to match. Restricted free agency means that the team can give them a tender with a particular draft round designation and the higher the round, the more money they will have to pay the player. If another team wanted to sign that player, they would then have to give up a corresponding draft pick.

Gipson was a UDFA too so they can't do the original draft pick tender. It will be a Mack situation at best with just rights of first refusal, but considering how important he is to their team and that the Browns have over 40 mil in cap space it will almost guaranteed be 1st or 2nd round tender.

So, basically the Browns would tender him with say a 2nd round draft pick and if we were to sign him, we would have to give up a 2nd round pick to the Browns.

We would have to not only give Gipson a big enough offer that the team with the 2nd most cap space (who instantly matched our huge offer on Mack last year) decided it was too much to match, then yes we would also have to give a 2nd rounder on top of that.

Yep, seems to be the case. It appears to be a bad year to need a safety, unless Patriots go brain dead and don't maintain McCourty, which is unlikely.

Ron Parker probably the best available that isn't RFA. Was much better switching to FS after Eric Berry's situation. Chiefs fans really want him back but it looks like there is too much interest in him for the Chiefs to be able to keep him and Houston.

I like Delmas coming off an injury as a signing with potential payoff in the near future

He's a strong safety only at this point in his career. Tyvon Branch was just released by the raiders but he may only be an option at SS as well.

With only one year of competent play, there is no way Ron Parker of the Chiefs is going to receive a contract in Free Agency for his asking price of 6 Mil. It never hurts to ask for more than you think you will get because sometimes you can get it, but in this case I don't think it is likely. I think 3.5 Mil is probably more in line with what he gets with a lot of incentives to placate his ego and allow his agent to publically announce his 6 Mil contract if he is a 8 INT FS and perennial ProBowl Player, which is unlikely to happen.

I could see Parker on the Jags radar as a potential Free Agent signee for the FS position.

Trade back in the 1st for an extra 2nd, then take Landon Collins.  Give the Browns the 2nd round tender and offer the same contract we was gonna give McCourty.  Maybe the same contract as Earl Thomas so the Browns maybe wont mach.  Then trade Cyprien for a 4th lol.   Our safety spots go from a weakness to a strength of the team.   Playoffs?

 FS -  Tashaun Gipson

 SS  -  Landon Collins

I feel like Gus really wants to get his guy to play in his D. And they are starting to feel the heat in year 3. With a weak safety draft class...where do we go to get our guy for this year? Gipson seems to be out of the picture...
