randle cobb and julius thomas

Jaguars are front runners in picking both cobb and thomas up off free agency. That would add to our already promising wr core. Thoughts?

Two free agents that are going to get huge new contracts somewhere.  I wouldn't rule out the Jags making a play for one of them.

Of course Thomas is the more likely to actually hit the market.  Cobb may still get a deal done in GB.

Either could help the Jags. Interesting situation to watch over the next 10 days or so.

I agree i dont think we are getting both although that would be a dream turn reality. I think we should go hard after thomas. Denver will franchise tag Demerius Thomas, and nfl insiders have said juilius wants to test FA, so we have a great shot at him as far as Cobb i agree with u; hes probably gonna sign with GB but i wouldnt be suprised if he test FA as well

I don't mind getting Thomas even though I have my reservations about him. It would suck signing an overpaid slot receiver.

Cobb is gonna stay in green bay and Thomas is gonna sign with the jags or raiders. Whoever puts up more money.

So basically 60 Million in Cap Space...

Cutting Lewis @ 7 million per and signing Thomas would only take how big of a chunk out of that?

Maybe 3 Million?

Or will they front load most of these contracts this year?

I'd rather solidify the offensive line first... add two or three veterans. Would love to have Cobb though. He has an interesting skill set as a WR. Very reliable target.

The pair almost had as many TDs than the Jaguars had as a team last year.

Maclin Thomas Suh would be quite a haul, ofc cutting Lewis.

My free agency wet dream scenario has the Jaguars acquiring Julius Thomas, Randall Cobb, DeMarco Murray and Devin McCourty to add some leadership and talent to a promising young roster and help Blake Bortles make a huge second year jump.  The Jaguars have the cap space to target the top free agent at every position whether it is a need or not.  This is the offseason we swing for the fences.  It has to be.

Sure, any of the guys we are targeting could get re-signed or tagged before we get to the chance to make our first offer. We'll know soon enough who we even have the chance to sign.

Only a chump boos the home team!

I'd take Bulaga over Cobb and Worlids over Murray

If just a big IF they get those two, Jaguars could be an elite team. Something BB can throw too.

You could add Bulaga and Worilds to my list.  Why not?  We have the means to make an offer to every single player we want.  We could legitimately break the bank and add a slew of top level FAs.  Assuming they actually become available and we are able to lure them here.

Thomas will be a Raider back near his hometown. Cobb will probably go somewhere else.

The danger of having so much cap money and an awful record at the same time is that there's pressure to make things happen right now; agreeing to ridiculous contracts for players who've made a splash on other teams who are in completely different circumstances than those the Jags are in. Not only is the temptation to offer too much money to draw big 'names', but to entice those 'names' even if they aren't for the most critically deficient positions we have.

The problem with pursuing such an action is that the risks of doing this sort of thing far outweighs the probable gains from it. Lets say we agree to a handful of these sort of massive contracts... suddenly, we no longer have a lot of 'cap space'. Then those players we've just over paid for and have been given up front money just sit back and go on 'cruise control'; with such massive amounts of money guaranteed, there is no impetus to excel any longer, and the Jags are once again holding the bag sponsoring NFL veterans who'v decided to 'rest' here until they go to other teams with a much better record and chance of reaching the playoffs. We've seen it here before folks.

We all know that our o-line is our 'Achilles tendon' and if it were significantly strengthened the rest of our needs would become less serious. Right now though, with the ranting of so many fans about 'we've got to get so-n-so' or 'if we pass on Mr. trouble we're foolish' if makes us sound like a drowning man who's grasping at anything that he thinks might help him float. Among other words, it makes us sound panicked and desperate! This is like 'blood in the water' for those free agent 'sharks' who could care less about turning this team around but are looking to make millions fast.

I suggest we don't worry too much about the big names who might be coming on the free agent market... and look for solid players who can bolster our inexperienced players while not throwing away our cap money on 'big names' or positions that are not our greatest needs. Save the monster contracts for players who prove themselves monsters here.

It won't matter if we've got the greatest receiver corps in the history of the NFL if our young quarterback is on the ground before he has a chance to make a good read and an accurate pass. Likewise, a great defense is no help if you can't put more points on the board than the other team. The best defense is a good offense.

Let's hope that we don't abandon the plan that was set in motion a couple of years ago at this point... make smart offers to players who can really help us long term.

I y'ams who I y'ams and thats all I y'ams...
