Jaguars re-sign Ryan Davis. Let RFA's (including Todman) walk

#41

I like Todman over Robinson when it comes down to speed. Todman seems much faster and can break into the secondary because he is so small, reminds me of a faster MJD. Robinson was taught to play RB, hopefully he works out for us and hopefully Toby gets cut or is used as FB/RB. I really think we need a RB that can run between OL and get some extra yards when needed.

Sorry for the double post but what is Ryan Davis's contract? Im thinking it was really cheap since the numbers aren't out there in the headlines as well as him being a RFA.

Quote:Mark my words. If Todman signs elsewhere he will be a beast for whatever team snags him. A legit 4.4 guy with strength to break tackles and was one of the top leaders in the league on kick off return yardage. No running back or QB could have had success behind that o-line last season. He's only 25 still too.
This is a prime example of how this fanbase hypes up mediocre players.

Lets get real.  Todman had 1 good run all of last year.  The RB position was wide open and the coaching staff most of you trust put him as the 3rd option at running back.  He will go to another team as a backup.

Any news on whether or not they are bringing Alan Ball back?  Would provide good veteran depth.

Looks like they are serious about moving Toby to FB/HB and short yardage back. We now that I can tell have no FB on the roster.

Is Ewing still with the team?

None of this means they won't return. It's just something that's done. Gives the guy the option of seeing his value before possibly committing to whatever contract that may have been suggested to them before hand.

Will T could be back but this is a sign RB will be addressed in some way this year.

Denard offers much more anyways and to me flashed more last year. They will give storm a chance to hold a roster spot and gerhart just might get moved to fullback.

Quote:Just curious.  Who did you think was the best RB on the team at the end of the year?  It's not like there were many choices .... Toby, Storm, or the injured Offensive Weapon?

Todman rushed 32-186 for 5.8YPC including 12-123 for 10 YPC in the final 2 games

In case you haven't noticed, Caldwell's evaluation of RBs is less than spectacular to date.   Toby Toby Toby  !!!

That's fine.  Baltimore will pick him up and utilize him properly.

Yeah, the replacement of Justin Forsett with Toby was an atrocious move in hindsight. I thought Todman looked good enough to keep around, but what do I know.

Didn't somebody say an Austin Pasztor deal was close? Any updates on him? He's an ok backup worth keeping.

What's the threshold for "beast"? 1000 yds?

Quote:The most common RFA tender is just over $1.5m.  It would not surprise me to see them re-sign Todman and, possibly, Ta'ofu'ou during free agency for less money.  Each player has potential value or adds camp competition, but not at $1.5m for the year.

Good point. The only name that truly surprised me was Will T, but that probably is too much for a FB.

I don't see Gerhart moving to FB while averaging $3.5 mil per year. Rather, I see his role at RB increasing with Olson catering the offense a bit to get Toby running up the gut on a far more consistent basis.

If Toby's role is increasing, then you might as well stick a fork in our season already.  He's terrible.

Quote:No. I don't remember that.
I could be wrong (I often am...) but I don't remember anyone claiming that Todman was the best running back on the team. I do remember that he was referred to as being a better option than Gerhart.

I don't think Gerhart ever had a fair shot to get going with Jedd Fisch's schemes doing absolutely nothing to help the running game.

Ryan Davis is a playmaker. It has been fun to watch this kid develop. He really excels rushing the passer from the DT position.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

The Todman love is more baffling to me than the AluAlu hate.

Todman was a top 10 return man in 2013, but that was it.  Really didn't do anything else.
