Teal Julius

Quote:$45 Million for a TE that has inflated numbers is a bit bothersome.

Most talented player at a position that is hard to find with a very weak TE class coming in this year. Gotta spend it anyway, Thomas may not be a super star but he is the biggest signing this team will make this year.

There was a post in another thread implying JT is one of those guys who just wanted to cash in and doesn't love the game. I am always leery of such talk, but there ARE some of those guys in the league. Anyone else hearing such talk? I have heard this from one "source" on a message board and nowhere else.
Only a chump boos the home team!

It's a good signing.  Are his numbers inflated because of Manning?  Well, we'll find out. As someone that lives in Denver and watched the Broncos quite often since I had Demaryius on my fantasy team, Julius definitely has talent.  He runs good routes and has good hands and has a knack for getting open.  He's clearly better than anything we have on our roster which is the most important thing.

Quote:Was I the only one who would mix up the Thomas'es? Demaryius is big for a wideout and Julius is athletic for a TE. Sometimes didn't know which Thomas it was until the announcers said so

I don't think he is as much a dominant red zone that as peyton Manning is a dominant red zone quarterback. I want to pay guys for what they will do, not what they did with sunshine else. Again, not saying you don't pursue him, but don't pay him like jimmy Graham.

It's the nature of free agency and it's why the draft is the best way to build a team.   If you're going to hire a good free agent, you're going to have to outbid everyone else for him.

You can say, "He played with Peyton Manning so he's probably not as great as he seems."     You cannot take shortcuts like that when evaluating these guys.   You have to look at tape to tell if his success is just because of Peyton Manning or if he's really that good.

It's a combination of Manning and Thomas most likely.

If you have a guy who can read defenses like Manning, who still has good arm strength and experience and accuracy throwing the ball, any guy who starts in that offense catching passes from him is going to be ultra productive.

However, a guy like Manning doesn't look Thomas' way if Thomas isn't where he is supposed to be when he is supposed to be there.  Manning doesn't look Thomas' way if he isn't getting separation from coverage.  Manning doesn't look Thomas' way if Thomas were an unreliable receiver.

Thomas likely won't be as productive, especially in terms of TDs here as he was in Denver with Manning-but it would be great if he were.  But the things he carries to the table-reliability in running routes, ability to separate from coverage, consistency catching the ball-are independent of Manning and can benefit any QB-including Bortles.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Who did he block?

Yep, his numbers will take a dive for sure. But, given the production we've gotten out of our TEs, he should still be an upgrade in the passing game. If anything, he'd get more yards out of that TE screen play that our OCs seem to love with Lewis lol

He should of agreed to terms by now. He's probably taking a offer elsewhere

You do know that it's legally impossible for him to do that, right?

They have to spend money no matter what.  Why not swing for the fence?

And yet that hasn't stopped...oh the rest of the NFL from doing so?

Until I see a more concrete report, I'm going to believe that this isn't quite as done. Close perhaps, but I'm going to guess there's no agreement made yet.

I understand his apprehension here.

Wasn't it Yogi Berra that said "It ain't over until it's over?"

I'm confident we'll get him in based upon everything I have read, but until it is officially announced, there will be that bit of uncertainty.

I know but looking at this franchise, do we really need that negativity right now. Positive vibes only.

I understand and agree with the uncertainty and whatever anxiety that may create, but wanting something that's not legally possible (signing a player to a new contract to a different team while said player is still under contract) seems a bit ludicrous.

That someone wanting a more credible report than the same one that's been going around (from Bleacher report, nonetheless) is viewed as "negativity" speaks more about this franchise...
