It's not about that.  You still don't overpay for running backs.  He's 27, right?  It's not worth the risk on a guy that has had injury issues in the past.

  It makes sense from the standpoints of system / HC familiarity.   And like you mentioned,  you can never have enough CB's.   It's better to have one too many,  than one too few.

If we don't overpay for Murray, we'll have to overpay for someone else.   There's not much else we can do with the money.   Even if it's in essence a 2-year deal, the main benefits would be:

 

1) we don't spend a draft pick on a RB;  get to use it for something else

2) it helps Bortles, and at this point, everything we do on offense has to be about helping Bortles.

Hmmm. I'd love to add Murray to the fold but am quite pleased overall with how FA has gone so far. Added solid contributors to almost every position that was a weakness last season. If we can somehow work a deal for Gipson the secondary could be deadly, followed by a front four of Bryant/Odrick, Miller, Marks, Clemons/Branch mashing the QB into the ground. Smith and Skuta flying around leveling people, McCray/Colvin/Gratz/House picking passes off, while Cyp and Gipson are headhunting int he secondary? Oof....

I wonder how much of a role Serg Brown might have regarding the fs spot. Starter?

I would think we would carry at least 5 CBs on the 53 man roster.   Gratz, Colvin, McCray, House, Browner.  

 

Also, injuries happen.

 Being that FS is a need for the Jaguars,  signing Brandon Browner would provide the team with the additional opportunities of mixing and matching.    The more versatility a player has,  in most cases it increases his value to a team significantly.
