Jeremy Parnell Signing

#81

as a fan I have to hope that the guy who is on the jags payroll makes sound football decisions and knows more than anyone of us. that being said I don't understand paying a backup swing tackle that money when we could have bulaga for 2 mill more.  money is not the issue so why not get a younger, better player?  now again if they think parnell is better then I understand.  I don't see it that way.  25 year old bulaga who is a top 5 right tackle or parnell who is a 28 year old backup swing tackle.  I guess that's why Dave makes the big money.  I hope he's right.

Bulaga gets hurt a lot.

No pain, no gain.

Quote:There is a difference in strong and being tough with a nasty disposition. I know as little as anyone else here, just going off what I read and his career so far, but he doesn't seem a tough guy. He loves pottery and painting, not that there is anything wrong with that, and I am sure there are good players that also like to build teddy bears, but it's not the type hobbies normally associated with a tough guy. Additionally, if he was so tough and motivated he wouldn't be 28 years old and have 6 starts, it's not like he has been injured, he couldn't even beat out a mediocre Free. He brings depth and can play multiple spots, so I think he might be a backup here.

That is a lot of cash for a potential backup tackle, I know we have to spend some dough but that deal is pretty big for a nobody who has done nothing.

But we will see.

Quote:Where....at any point in time did I say ALL Marines use the term "Butt Hurt"? I just said it is used on a daily basis. Being as there are currently just shy of 200,000 Marines on active duty and reserve, it's highly improbable that every single one of them use the term. I can guarantee that I've met more Marines than you...yet you read something that Brian Stann (good guy BTW) and Tim Kennedy said and take it as gospel. The stupidity flows out of you, much like menstruation.

you seem butt hurt.  oh look, im being cool like the marines cause I said 'butt hurt'

but yes, ill take the word of Brian Stann and Tim Kennedy (along with the numerous reports done on the matter) over some random idiot on a message board any day.  if that makes me stupid, then so be it.

I still haven't ruled Bulaga out. I'm insane, of that I'm sure, but I still haven't ruled out the possibility of seeing him in teal. The silence from his camp as other players announce deals left and right is telling.

No, apparently you're being cool because according to your original post on 'butt hurt', you are a time traveling teenager.  I highly doubt you possess the mental, physical, or moral qualifications to be a Marine anyway, so if you want to sound cool and talk like one then so be it.

Ah...so someone on TV says it, thus it be gospel.  Gotcha.

Quote:we paid an unproven player a lot of money.  it is what it is.  not upset at all.

FYI the term "butt hurt" was only used by teenagers about 10 years ago.

If I had to pick a possible dark horse signing from this first crop of free agents, it's Parnell.

Caldwell has shown a knack for finding guys that were either mis-used, just missing out on playing time due to a good starter ahead of them, or missing time from injury yet still having potential.  These are crafty ways to find talent - even if it's a short term fix.

I have a feeling that - even though they had the luxury of over paying this guy - he'll prove to be a well-scouted fringe player that becomes a useful starter.

Just my gut on this signing. Hope I'm right.

I agree! i also like Skuta. the league is filled with undrafted players that stick around with teams until they earn a shot, and then make good on that said shot. Both Skuta and Parnell would have been welcomed back by their respective former teams. They earned their way on the field and preformed. Trust me with Willis and Skuta gone the 49ers are looking at LB as a position that needs to be worked on and I bet the Cowboys will miss the heck out of Parnell! Good day to be a Jaguar fan!

One would have to think with P. Willis retiring abruptly the Niners had strong interest in bringing Skuta back.  While not flashly signings: Parnell, Skuta, Brown, and House should be solid contributors to a team that trotted out Bradfield, Whimper, Britton, Prosinski, David Jones, Don Carey, and other similar players the past few years.

There were 4 potential long term RT starters in FA, and one good stop gap.

Bulaga was never ever ever leaving GB. He really wanted to be there, he was their #1 priority, and they had well over 30 mil in cap space. Any fan from any team with Bulaga on their wish list was dreaming. Newton and Free resigned before the legal tampering window started.

That left Parnell and Barksdale as the only real viable options. I know a lot of people don't care about PFF and they aren't perfect, but truth is they give the closest looks (2 trained employees looking at every single play for every player every game) and do it in the most unbiased way to me so it's the most fair comparison IMO. Well, PFF grades have Parnell with a superb +8.7 in 388 snaps (Bulaga had +11.9 in nearly triple the snaps). Barksdale had a -5.9 in 1031 snaps, and he has had very litlte buzz whereas Parnell had at least 4 known strong suitors.

I think we clearly got the best and most desired FA RT for this year, and yeah we did pay up for it.

Seeing Bulaga's deal with GB, that much is clear. Much like Cobb, both wanted to stay.

Incredibly well respected GB guys like Aaron Nagler said every day the chances Bulaga was leaving was 0%. Even when there were rumors of many teams courting him and offering far more money than the Packers were comfortable playing. It's why every time I suggest FA targets I said non-Bulaga RTs, cause it just wasn't gonna happen.

Cobb they were a little more worried about leaving, I thought that one had a chance of happening.

If you are talking about Parnell, he never played a game for the Saints.  He was a practice squad player.  He started 5 regualr season games last year when Free went down and 7 total in his career.  He was their swing tackle.
