The Jaguars are in the smallest market, having trouble selling tickets. They rely on the goodwill of their fans and sponsors. You better believe they are trying to please fans. Thus, the attempt to improve "the fan experience".

A whole lot of fans are woman, or wives/girlfriends of ticket buyers - and they matter. If they sign Hardy, fine, they've made a decision. But to think they don't have to be concerned with possible repercussions is ignorant and short-sighted.
You are suggesting the GM and owner wish they could conduct a fan poll to sign a player and I'm the one that doesn't understand pro football?  Hahaha, you're funny!  Clueless, but funny.

If the team persuing Hardy wanted to remain anon, would the head coach go on record of saying "yes, we're discussing Hardy"?

Not saying the Jags are persuing him, but that makes no sense..

why would we want to be anonymous?  Gus is probably being honest here.  There is no reward for being secret here.  It's not like the draft.

Not being in Jacksonville I can understand your ignorance. The Jaguars organization extensively seeks feedback from it's fan base.

They don't just depend on anonymous yahoos from a message board. I'm sure they have considered the reaction to a Hardy signing in their deliberations. Doesn't mean they won't sign him. Just means they'll take all his baggage into account.

Now, go back to providing those priceless "insights" of yours.

Ya, I don't have a clue about Jacksonville do I, I've only not lived their for 6 months since the teams inception. Now look where the ignorance is coming from.

Teams don't take fan polls to sign players bud, get over it.

This has got to be one of the dumbest comments I have seen on this message board.

You're suggesting that the owner who is trying to get international recognition is willing to listen to the fans of the city but not that rest of the fan base?  There are no yahoos in Jacksonville right? News flash the "fan base" doesn't only reside in Jacksonville. I am so tired of fans like you, ones that give off this perception that they are the true fans simply because they live in the city. One could argue that you have less of a choice to be a fan of whatever team you want.

Surely if what you say is accurate they would have listened to the chants to bring in Tebow or the billboard for Murray.

Teams do not listen to the fan base like you believe they do.....who's being ignorant now?

Next please.
Not our job to judge. We pay him to play football, and he's served his suspension. A football team is not some kind of social justice organization.

I'll be looking forward to their fan feedback solicitation about who we should draft then.  When does that email come out?

That argument is complete garbage, and I'm tired of hearing it. That argument is good for mild incidents, partied a little too hard, made a mistake.. but to be a consistent problem.. to experience extreme fits of rage, to throw a woman into a pile of guns because you want to live out a kingpin fantasy, to beat another human being because you cannot control yourself? It has nothing to do with holding athletes to any higher standards, but holding them to basic standards. Standards of being a grown up. There is no place in society for it, no matter what your job description is. This type of argumentation allows it to pass. You don't keep giving these guys opportunities, just because they are great athletes. If Greg Hardy was had two career sacks and bounced around teams, not a single poster would bat an eye over signing him, but since he is talented, he gets a free pass.

1 incident…3 speeding tickets.

You also don't kill a dude over a single incident (especially 1 that got dropped…in the court of law he has 3 speeding tickets)…that no one really knows the full details about since it involves a coked girl and a most likely coke/drunk Hardy.

I sincerely hope that you never get a DUI as that is just as bad as you can kill someone just as easily.  Under your moral standards a DUI should be a career ender for NFL and the lay person correct?  Don't let them have a free pass.

I guess Jameis Winston just shouldn't even try to enter the NFL cause we would be giving him a pass on his "Rape" charge….you know the one that he was charged with…then it got dropped…and is now in Civil court.

So then he should never hold another job again and be forced to live out his days in exile and homeless?

The witch hunt is strong again.

Is he good at his job?  Yes.  Will his baggage affect performance of said job?  If no - hire.  As long as he doesn't get himself suspended or hurt his teammates' play, it doesn't matter what he does outside of work.

Like I said, if he wasn't good at his job, or just okay, you would use the off field issues to be a reason he shouldn't be signed,,,

How is it a witch hunt? You're assuming I have strict standards on the issue and I don't.. my issue is that guys like Hardy went too far, and that's when as a moral, ethical person, you say no thanks. Stop allowing a game to be more important that being a decent person. Stop allowing domestic abuse, violence and rape, by giving free passes just because they are good at something. After a while you absolutely lose the right to have great jobs, there are penalties, suspensions etc.. He has already had his free passes, it's time he pay for what he has done, which is another suspension, low contract, laden with behavior guidelines, whatever it takes.

I could give two blades of grass about speeding tickets, smoking weed, partying, sleeping in a bed full of guns.. I'm all about doing what you like when you are at home. The problem is he has crossed into another area of problems which is lack of self control. It's too evident that he has problems.

I'm not intending my tone to be so harsh here. Hardy is not the worst offender in the league, but it's too late for him to be given free passes for hurting other people. Second chances are nice and all, but what is the actual line?
